Subway DIY VIP Section, By Appointment Only

As strange as it is sad, Four Four encountered the above temporary autonomous zone on an uptown R train last week.

Hey asshole, this is illegal on many counts, according to the MTA transit rules. Perhaps you don't take the train, then you would not have such a problem with this gross display of misconduct and annoyance. It becomes funny when the guy is seriously taking up residence here. Imagine if everyone sectioned off an area on the train. It would become a fire hazard. Oh, wait, he's poor, let him take a corner for a home.

  • pissyrabbit

    Laughing? Im not laughing.

However I *am* wondering why I didn't think of that first.

  • microdot

If you can't laugh at the homeless, who can you laugh at, yourself?

Don't worry, some of us will be in her 'shoes' soon enough.

  • Lord Stompo

Her spelling and grammar are flawless.

  • Future Taliban

Just because a person is homeless doesn't mean they shouldn't try to do it with some sense of fashion.

  • chickblao

WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THIS ABOUT PIVEN? DO YOU KNOW HIM PERSONALLY? EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT HIM IS SPECULATION AND YOU SOUND OBNOXIOUS AND YOU'RE PLAYING YOURSELF OUT WITH IT - NOT TO MENTION IT'S KIND OF A KNOCKOFF OF GAWKER'S LITTLE FASCINATION/JOKES ABOUT HIM.

STICK TO DOING THINGS WELL PLEASE.

    ANNOYING.

  • JacqueMehoff

    bloomberg will do nothing.

this poor soul will be left out in the cold, literally.

the cops will stand around passing the buck. looks like all the people Giuliani locked up are getting out. and not the best of time for them.

the city shuffles these people away before rush hour so we won't see them.

    tasteless post, and the tone!

using this story to link to another gothamist post about Crocs? really?

  • La Leone

I consider JDS gothamist's most humorous and interesting writer. However, can't you suspend the bitchy queen persona for once in this particular case? Making fun of homeless people's shoes plummets you from humorous to humorless in about 5 seconds. Yeah they are ugly, so what. It's sad that someone has to wear shoes with ventilation holes...in the middle of winter.

  • Toby von Meistersinger

I guess this would be one of those times if you see something say something.

Unless the human subject of this photo is a performer or a sculpture representing an artist's societal commentary, this is neither funny nor entertaining. This appears to be an unfortunate situation where the subject has been taken advantage of with complete disregard for decency on the part of the photographer...and the content providers on this web site. Without explanation relating to the subject otherwise, he appears to be somebody with mental health issues - about which the rudely voyeuristic photographer, Ms. Chung and Mr. Dobkin exhibit disturbing disrespect. Have some decency, remove this post, and consider alternates to propagating this type of situation for content in the future.

Us law-abiding riders with respect for the trains don't need to tolerate this just because they feel bad about the guy being homeless or mentally incapable.

F#$^King liberals never see it for what it is. It is not the MTA's job to help this guy, it is their job to provide a clean train and get rid of law breakers. I laugh at these photos because people like you think breaking the law is OK, because the man is poor and mentally unstable

  • Mr Mel

    Well said.

  • stereotypical

Yeah, I actually saw this woman the other day on the train. She was sleeping. I think it was an N train too actually.

  • helenback

    woah, that is so awesome!!!

but you are totally wrong Matty: no one who travels with such style and forethought is an idiot!

  • Nyctini11

Helen, i think Matty was referring to those making fun of this situation as "idiots" although i could be wrong & in that case, i'd be an idiot too ;-)

  • helenback

    no shit

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

    tragic, I hate Bloomberg.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

No means no, even the Salvation army has an appointment. He does have a point.

  • matty

I would like to see JDS blogging from an alley on a cardboard computer in a year's time.

  • Future Taliban

    "American Stockbroker Opens New Office".

  • Lor

Wow, I love making fun of homeless, probably mentally ill people. Oh wait...

If you want to help someone residing in a public area and you suspect he or she may be homeless, you can call the citywide 24-hour Homeless Helpline (212-533-5151) operated by the Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC).

  • matty

making fun of homeless people is so cool and hip and is totally a cool thing to blog about.

    idiots.

  • Felix Hoenikker

Somewhere, there is an empty rubber room for this fellow.

  • madzack

    a m a z i n g.

  • zpk

That's not an R train. Probably an N.

  • PKinNYC

no mention of the fact that he is pantsless and wearing leg warmers?

  • SeasTooFarToReach

hey, just because you are homeless does not mean you can't be fashionable!
