Don't Worry: Obama is Definitely Our President

President Barack Obama took the Oath of Office again, joking to reporters, "We decided it was so much fun..." During his swearing-in, Chief Justice John Roberts stumbled over some of the phrasing, prompting some to say Obama wasn't president and that he should re-take the oath.

Convened in the White House's Map Room, Chief Justice Roberts asked if the President was ready; Obama said, "I am, and we're going to do it very slowly." And when everything was done, the President joked again, "The bad news for the [press] pool is there's 12 more balls."

"Don't Worry: Obama is Definitely Our President"

Correction; He's YOUR president. After 8 years with the previous retard I can definitely say I've kicked the habit of trusting these douchebags FOREVER.

  • Avaz383

Unlike Chief Justice Rehnquist, Roberts didn't bring a 3x5 card with the words written down...way to go, shmuck.

    smart as hell

Would have been smarter to say it correctly and simply ignored Roberts. I would have paid to see that.

Thank god the next three Supreme Court appointments belong to Obama!

The next two to go are going to be Ginsburg and Stevens. Word on the street is Ginsburg is not well. Stevens could very well outlive us all so the question is whether he chooses to die in office or resign. I'd put my money on him resigning in 2012, just to be certain Obama names his replacement. I'd also put money on Souter leaving as well. Rumor is he hates Washington and would rather just retire to New Hampshire. As for the others, Kennedy, Scalia, and Breyer are all 70 or older. Scalia's not going anywhere unless it's in a body bag.

See NY Times oped today. Roberts might have screwed up the oath on purpose because he's such a grammar fanatic that he cleaned up the split infinitive. Obama - smart as hell and a class act - paused to let this rigid right-winger put the oath back in its original form. Thank god the next three Supreme Court appointments belong to Obama!

    yo roberts! rogaine that shit!

  • EastRiver

Too bad Obama's class didn't trickle down to his supporters. Or even his VP. Biden tried making a Roberts joke at the swearing in of senior staff yesterday. Not only did Obama not even smile, he grabbed Biden's arm as if to shut him up.

  • ugh

Roberts is an idiot for F*cking that up ! A fifth grader could have done a better job.

And supreme court justice appointments are for life ...

  • EastRiver

Yeah, reciting oaths is such an important part of his day job! Impeach him!!

  • starrygordon

Didn't Roberts have some kind of seizure not too long ago? Maybe he's not all there and needs a really long rest. It's never too soon to start replacing crazed right-wing fanatics on the Supreme Court.

    WELCOME TO CRAWFORD

    Obama's closing Gitmo,

    Which makes George W. blanch.

OK, if he's so stressed out,

    Move it to his ranch.

  • Rocknrope

Nice job Roberts, you pratt. You had three lines to say, and still couldn't get that right.

  • Outter Burrougher

I actually kind of figured that when Obama jumped in a little early during the first line that it threw off Roberts. It was the first time either of them were involved in the presidential oath of office, I'm sure there were a little bit of nerves on both sides.

  • Politburo

That one can also be chalked up to Roberts. If you look at past oaths (both presidential and otherwise), there is usually a pause after "I, [name]..". Roberts didn't pause.

  • NannyState

Roberts gives bad oath. Even his wife agrees.

  • donner

I 100% agree! They both had to be a little nervous and Obama did jump the gun... that would throw anyone off in a situation like that!

  • Dirk

He only had to memorize 35 words. Now he'll go down in the history books as the guy who screwed up the inauguration.

  • Spirit of 76

Are you kidding? Roberts is going to be in the history books for screwing up a hell of a lot more than just an inauguration. There are much more important things going on in the Court. This is Dubya's "legacy."

  • I know—it's only of his major duties that only comes once every four years. He couldn't Chief Justice up for the occasion?

  • fakenewyorker

even though it's ridiculous, it's good to see the president trying to strictly adhere to the letter of the constitution.
