Quinn's Enemies Say She Won't Hear Their Legislation

2009_01_quinn.jpg Is Speaker Christine Quinn guilty of cronyism when it comes to moving legislation through City Council? Since 2002, Quinn has seen 35 of her bills get passed, second only to her closest ally David Weprin (he's had 78 bills passed). Meanwhile, foes Charles Barron and Tony Avella have only seen four bills total passed over the same period of time. That sharp contrast led Councilman Avellla to tell the News, "The speaker is very vindictive, and when you oppose the speaker, she doesn't let bills go through." But other members defend the Quinn's methods as rewarding persistence, pointing out legislation most often comes from committee chairs, whom she's appointed. Weprin heads the Finance Committee, which leads to a number of procedural budgetary legislation, and Quinn herself headed the Health Committe before coming Speaker. Former Speaker Peter Vallone Sr. said to the paper, "Every speaker is accused of playing favorites when it comes to bills."

Hmmm... a) I like 16 year old boys and b) you are homophobic... which people in Chris' district definitely do not like...

  • Nyctini11

Corruption in NYC government what a shock!

Can Obama open a hotline so we as citizens can turn people like this in??

  • thefacts

People in her district love Chris because she delivers the bacon.

Her opponents are two of the biggest losers on God's Earth.

    Take a look at one:

http://yettakurland.com/splash/index.html What a joke. She looks like a fat 16-year old boy!

The other is excessively corrupt - a Republican disguised as a Democrat ! She is working with the last of the Tammany clubs in NYC. If she gets 10% of the vote, she is lucky.

    Quinn's in like Flynn!

    The Edge:

OMG! Quinn is a loser SQUARED who would sell her grandmother for whiskey. Please. It's not rocket science. Animal rights, people rights, she hates everything. Except slush funds, overdevelopment, Boss Tweed politics, arm-twisting, "relative" abiity (ie, the late Tom Manton--the Queens political boss--was Quinn's godfather, and all manner of sordid deal-making. Blecccch.

  • The Edge

felix.. there must be some sort of animal abuse/rights angle to all of this, right? This must be the first time I've seen you fired up about something other than PETA.

  • DangerousHDCs

    And...

again, here is a link to a report that shows carriage industry trailers at New Holland, Pa., to unload horses.

Note: I am not affiliated with an organization, and as far as I know, the "Banhdc" website is the only place where the full report is posted yet.

Felix's comments have nothing to do with PETA. Felix is merely pointing out the sad truth that Quinn has blocked every single piece of animal-friendly that has ever been introduced. And that Lappin is Quinn's lap dog.

Edge, It is a humanity and there is no such thing as animal issue, human issue. it is all connected. Quinn has made use of the city council money as her own and has hurt many new yorkers with her political back dealings.

the facts is one of the drivers who is part of the dirty politics that robs the residents for the selected few. It is interesting how thefacts continues to spin those lies that benefit him personally

    Per Borat of NYC

Unless you are part of Quinn's slush fund association then you basically get nothing in the way of bills being introduced or being appointed to the right committee. She is a corrupt ignorant women who plays with City Council money like it is her own.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Quinn, Queen of the Slush funds. by the way Tony Avella was the only council member who voted against the 25% pay raise the city council gave themselves and he voted against the mayor bill to overturn term limits without a public vote. Also the voted no on a of the overdevelopment that drove residents to homeless shelter or out of state. Tony Avella is a good man.

Yes speakers do play favorite, but Quinn is the only Speaker in NYC that has forced votes on her bills for her own interest and vindicately killed bills sponsored by members who don't curtail to her corruption. One recent example is resolution 497 introduced by Tony Avella for humane education in elementary schools. Quinn opposed the bill and made sure her puppets vetoes the bill. James Vacca and Jessica Lappin do Quinn's bidding and voted against humane education as well as the bill for a referendum on term limits. Jessica Lapin, James Vacca and those other council members don't represent us but themselves. There is no check or balance in the city council. Quinn runs the city council solely. We must as well rid ourselves of the other 50 members who receive over 100k for a part time job.

A good thing we have term limits to prevent politicians like Quinn from doing nothing but accumulate personal power.

    Oh wait ...

  • EastRiver

I have a problem with limiting politicians to two terms because half of their time in office they end up being a lame duck. Maybe make it three terms. And even with term limits so many of these politicians just jump from one office to the next - still accumulating power.
