It's official: Hillary Clinton is the new Secretary of State. Senator John Cornyn (aka "Big Bad John") had blocked an Inauguration Day confirmation and, today, Senator John McCain helped pave the way for a voice vote in the Senate.

Clinton was approved, 94- 2—the NY Times reports, "The only senators opposing the nomination were David Vitter of Louisiana and Jim DeMint of South Carolina, both Republicans. Mr. Vitter was the only member of the Foreign Relations Committee to oppose her last week, when she won the panel’s endorsement, 16 to 1. Mr. Vitter has asserted that former President Bill Clinton’s fund-raising activities create too many possible conflicts of interest." And check it out: The State Department now has a blog "DipNote" and the most recent post is about Clinton's confirmation (of course!).

The new Secretary of State has spoken fondly of her work on behalf of NY State and says that she'll continue to live in NY. Now, where is our junior Senator from New York?!?

My grandmother has a couch that looks like that.

What really sets off the look is the white gloves. I haven't seen gloves like that since I played clarinet in my high school band back in the early sixties.

However and what ever she does I'm sure she will improve the world's view of the US of A a hell of a lot better than Condolesa Rice. Even my long dead dog could have done a better job.

we're on our way to getting the US back in the right direction. the world knows we need this and knows that the Bush admin destroyed (literally destroyed) a lot of our foreign relations in a short 8 years.

The dress or the gloves? You must admit she does fill the dress pattern out to its fullest. What is she, size 23? I can see Bill walking on her in a few years.

She must have really got pissed after loosing the nomination and took it out on the food supply for the Sub-Saharan food relief program.

Man, Bill has to wake up to that every morning? BTW that looks like the type of dress women used to be buried in during the Victorian Age....

You people are way too hard on her. Madeleine Albright wore that same outfit for her Bas Mitzvah.

None of us would look flattering in that dress. Wearing that frumpy dress hardly requires the courge it takes to run for president. Rock on Hill.

It's her "fat dress" that she keeps in the trunk. Her other one is a dark blue number that turns Bill on but stirs up the media and her enemies. She had a hat to go with but she lent it out to Aretha Franklin who was complaining about the cold...as well as her gray roots.

you know... i do recall the public saying she was the brains behind bill while he was president. so how is bill now going to make all the decisions? first of all, you're flip floppers. secondly, even if bill were helping hillary make decisions, how is that not a benefit? two-in-one? two people with pretty good experience with politics? hello? earth?

Mary Todd Lincoln wore that same dress to her husband's inauguration.
