Evening Update: Scroll down for additional video footage of the landing.
The National Transportation Safety Board is hoping to hoist Flight 1549 from the Hudson River today, but the cold weather is making things difficult: The Airbus A320—which is tied to a sea wall down by Battery Park City—is surrounded by ice! The jet's removal was originally scheduled for 10 a.m., but has been pushed back to noon; the NTSB's Kitty Higgins said, "This is frustrating because of the weather."
The NTSB said that the two engines from the plane, which landed in the Hudson on Thursday afternoon, were missing. Initial speculation suggests that a bird strike (or, in this case, a Canada geese strike) is what caused the engine failure, but the authorities have refused to comment until the investigation is complete. The plane landed in the Hudson around the West 40s—and then drifted for a mile and was towed to its current location—and sonar is being used to locate them. Once the plane is removed, it will be taken to an undisclosed location in NJ and the plane's manufacturer will aid in stripping it down.
The NTSB is also trying to find the data recorder and voice recorder; it's believed they are still in the plane. Because of the weather conditions, as well as currents, divers have had limited time to look for the equipment. The NY Times reports that reconstruction of the events is also taking place: The NTSB is also reviewing video footage as well as "searching for video of the jet during its final glide into the water" and according to the NYPD, "the first 911 call to the police came from a man in the Bronx who reported that he heard a loud boom in the sky, looked up and saw the plane." And here's Coast Guard video, taken from the NJ side, of the landing:
The plane's crew, including pilot Captain Chesley Sullenberger, is being interviewed today. Higgins praised the crew and rescue effort, "This had a remarkable outcome, this type of accident with 155 survivors is remarkable, we want to learn from that. So much went right with this accident. We want to understand all the things that went right for the future."
Update 12:22 p.m.: The NTSB will try to lift the plane at 2:30 p.m. and it turns out the right engine is still attached to the plane.
Update 6:50 p.m.: A second video has been compiled, showing the landing from multiple angles:

First video of the end of the impact and the first 8 mins of the rescue has been found:

That's incredible footage, however, the above picture points to how dicey the situation could have been with respect to the actual "landing" of the plane and the subsequent rescue efforts...
The footage really show how masterfully the captains guided their ferries. The plane was drifting really fast. The first ferry was coming right at the plane and had to reverse and keep a proper distance to carry out a rescue. Incredible. I can't believe how fast the passangers got out of the plane. Everything did go right. Kudos to everybody.
why the f didnt they take it out that night. now the luggage is probably wet.
NY1 had some more footage of the splashdown from a better angle but I can't find it online. It was shown on the 11AM broadcast.
That video is amazing. If they did not point out it was a plane, I'd have thought it was just a boat speeding down...
Gov. Paterson should give Hillary's seat to Capt. Sullenberger.
Why waste his skills and talent to hold a job any greedy, narcissistic moron can do as Hillary has amply demonstrated?
Salvage crew having trouble. As of 5 pm the plane is completely submerged. http://imnotsayin.blogspot.com/2009/01/flight-1549-salvage-update-plane-now.html
If ever I thought MY Job was tough...
what's interesting is we're now seeing a lot of surveillance footage of the plane coming down IN A RIVER.
Yet, we only have 3 frames of footage of a plane coming down on the Pentagon.
The Hudson River is miles long and has two banks. Each side of the Pentagon is 921 feet. And the Pentagon should have more cameras pointed outward looking for threats.
Of all the minutes of classified footage from different angles, those 3 frames were the only ones that looked enough like a plane. The others clearly show the hebrew lettered cruise missile.
Don't you read the intarweb?
Great job by this pilot. I recently heard how there is no training for "ditching" a plane in flight simulators. Just a pilot and copilot who are good at what they do.
I realize that the NYPD and the FDNY have very competent divers, but might I suggest using professional divers for the recovery? They do diving all the time not as a part time exercise. Where is the head of OEM with this? Oh I forgot it's Joe Bruno. Never mind.
Not the same Joe Bruno as the former State Senate leader from Troy.
Just lifting the plane out of the water with cranes could break it up. There's an inflatable mat that can be placed under the plane to balance it and slowly raise it. I wonder if they are going to go that route...
I hope there were no stowaways aboard
The media has neglected to mention Rover and Fluffy in the cargo compartment.
She's out of the drink and onto a barge.

Wow, that is one bigass crane. I'm glad it didn't topple like all the other ones.
