From the Gothamist Newsmap: a missing child at Park Hill Ave & Sobel Ct in Staten Island, a steam leak on E 64th St in Manhattan and a foot chase on E 153rd St in the Bronx.
Four men were stabbed last night at Canarsie nightclub Djumbala at the "official" after-party of Notorious on the film's opening night.
A Long Island teenager hazed a younger member of his high school wrestling team by telling him, "I'm going to rape you," and then performing an act that wasn't a whole lot better.
as sure as the sun rises tomorrow and death and taxes i knew there was going to be Notorious screenings related violence, and I assume there will be more
anyways wouldn't have ol' biggie wanted it that way?
Gothamist should get the Sully scoop. Coverage here proved to be the best so far, showing just how media landscape has changed. The reporting was also (assumingly) unbranded and independent.
The problem I have...is NBC universal (who has the scoop), is owned by GE. Cooincidentally, the Airbus 320 is also powered by engines of a GE joint venture called "CFM International". The same engines that were taken down by a flock of little birdies.
And there you have it - the conflict of interest between journalism and corporate ownership. All of the large media outlets are owned and connected to the same companies.
The 'free press' should be completely free of holding companies, as well as companies that have government donotr links, or it's not really free at all.
Nice conspiracy theory, except it doesn't make any sense. Capt. Sullenberger does not work for Airbus, CFM or GE. If anything, he should be more pissed than anyone at those GE engines for dying.
Gothamist was great. I had to laugh that there was better coverage of this story on CNBC than on CNN. While those idiots at Time Warner Center were awaiting confirmation about a plane that splashdowned past their building, the fine folks in Secaucus had the video, the story, and the details as they were known.
WSJ had excellent early coverage as well, better than NYT which also had a view of the action from their building, though NYT caught up later with some great interactive flash action.
Kudos to Gothamist for doing a great job aggregating it all.
So my calling out the huge conflict of interest makes me a 'conspiracy theorist'?
Maybe it just means I can think critically and have a healthy aversion to corporate holding company as well government controlled media. It used to be called the free press, but that simple concept just seems to elude a lot of people nowadays.
It's not about what the Capt. says, as I think he'll say exactly what he thinks. But i's 2009 - it's about what's edited and delivered in soundbites.
Once again a bully tries to "degrade" another male by sticking something up said male's butthole. How exactly does that degrade the victim and not the butthole-sticker?
Man, lotsa dudes using "hazing" as an excuse to do really gay stuff. Just be gay, bro!

So much for the independent press.

Gothamist has done a nice job of reporting about flight 1549. When it comes to any big new story in the area Gothamist is the best.
