NYPD Service Revolver Used in Murder-Suicide

Newsday reports that the off-duty police officer who killed his wife and then himself had used his service revolver. According to Suffolk police, Francis Cole, an NYPD lieutenant, had first stabbed wife Elena in the chest with a kitchen knife in their Centereach home. Their 18-year-old daughter "tried to intervene during or just after the knife attack," but Cole hit her in the face (Newsday says it's "unclear if the blow was intentional"). He then used his .38-caliber revolver to shot his twice in the head and then turned the gun on himself. Suffolk Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick said the daughter "definitely witnessed the shooting."

What a schmuck and a loser. Not just for murdering his wife, but for putting his daughter through an experience that almost certainly is going to emotionally traumatize her for the rest of her life.

If Bloomberg has any b@lls, he should issue an order that any member of the NYPD who attends Cole's funeral will be fired and will forfeit all pension rights.

i agree, this copper was this distraught over an upcoming DIVORCE. but they have no problems tasing, sodomizing and lying. and of course, that blue wall of silence.

I don't even want to think what kind of problems the daughter will have now for the rest of her life. She will probably be on medication the rest of her life..

He should be charged with illegally and inappropriately using city owned equipment and charged appropriately for said crime.

Except that he's already dead.

Tragic story. My heart goes out to the daughter and grandmother.

What the hell is in the water on Long Island????? All these wack-job stories come from there!

So will the cop's pension go to the daughter? Man, that's a mixed bag....

18 years old, parents dead. Can't collect her dad's life insurance because he committed suicide. Totally fucked, can only hope she can get his pension at least.
