First Look at New Yankee Stadium

Diamond Hoggers has a first look inside the new Yankee Stadium, which includes a new shiny locker room complete with giant hot tub and Yankee logo carpeting. Elsewhere there's an indoor batting cage for rainy day sluggers, as a sign hangs outside stating the date the park is to be born: 2/17/09. That's the day construction is set to end, and reportedly "some of the workers on site are wearing buttons that say, 'YANKEE STADIUM, 2-17-09' as a motivational reminder."

While the site notes that nearly everything else is the same as the old stadium, even "those legendary bleachers out in right field," there is one noticeable difference so far: The scoreboard is apparently more modern looking in the new park. However, the public has a while before getting their seats on the new bleachers: The Yanks won't host their first exhibition games until April 3rd, 2009, which happens to be the same day that Mets host their first exhibition games at their new home, CitiField.

that hot tub looks shitty and old for a new hot tub.

also, f this place, it's nothing like the real yankee stadium, unless something's affordable, but nothing about it is affordable for fans.

Like the average fan gives a crap what kind of hot tub A-Rod and Jeter luxuriate before a game.

What about the clubhouse toilets, do they come with gold plated seats?

Come on Gothamist, this guy barely knows what he's talking about.

"Individual locker set and a better look at that famous railing design from inside old and new Yankee Stadium."

It's called the Frieze? Any normal Yankee fan knows that.

"The old park had no scoreboard in the wall and as you can see the lettering and numerals will be modernized rather then the old flashbulb lights to make a scoreboard."

Yes, a hand operated scorebord is wayyyyyyyy more modern than one with those "flashing lights" what do you call them? Oh yeah ... LEDs.

Anyway. The folks over at Baseball-Fever have a lot more in depth knowledge on the New Yankee Stadium, and if you're interested and an entire thread on Citi Field with pictures, blueprints, and diagrams as well as demolition pics of Shea which looks like a graveyard.

Sliding Into Home updates with Yankee Stadium construction pictures every second day.

Waste of money. Yankees want a new stadium let them pay for it.

Amen, brother.
I don't see us paying for new Mickey D franchises.

The House that Taxpayers Built

For this shoddy-looking stadium they destroyed a beautiful park with 300-year-old oak trees? What a crime.

This stadium will be used about 100 days out of the year and costs a bundle. Let's close fire houses, limit social services, reduce spending for education, and raise taxes while Derek Jeter drops a turd into a brand new state of the art toilet. All the while Mayor Mike will constantly remind everyone of the billions of dollars this new monolith will generate. I am holding out hope for the recession to hit pro sports-enough is enough

I'm about to lose my job, and they waste my money building crap like this? Thanks, NYC.

Why did the copy the Yankee Candle font? Also, is that hot tub in the stadium for people to use during games, like the swimming pool / hot tub at Bank One Ballpark, where the AZ Diamondbacks play.

That ain't Yankee Stadium.
