With the winds swirling at Giants Stadium, New York made the odd decision not to take the wind and instead took the ball off the coin toss. It was a stupid decision and one that would come back to haunt them throughout the day. They kicked a field goal on their first drive, but an Eli Manning interception into the wind led to a Philadelphia touchdown and they fell behind 7-3.
New York pulled closer after a nice punt by Jeff Feagles backed Philadelphia up to their own end zone. Donovan McNabb committed an intentional grounding penalty in the end zone and that gave New York an automatic safety. The Giants kicked a field goal to take an 8-7 lead, but Philadelphia answered with their own field goal to take a 10-8 lead at halftime.
The Giants must have left their mojo in the locker room, because they were totally outplayed in the second half. Fred Robbins made a beautiful interception on the Eagles’ opening drive and returned the ball to the Eagles 33, but New York could only kick a field goal. Trailing 13-11, New York missed their second field goal of the game and when Philadelphia responded with a touchdown, the Giants had a nine-point hole to climb out of.
They were not up to the challenge. Eli Manning was miserable, missing receivers and looking like the bad Eli of old. The defense didn’t touch McNabb, giving him ample time to find open receivers. Two consecutive drives in the fourth quarter ended when the Giants couldn’t convert on fourth and short. Philadelphia beat them at the line of scrimmage and they beat them in all facets of the game. And now the Giants will have seven months to think about how they didn’t show up to defend their Super Bowl title.
Maybe all of their fairy dust is away from New Jersey. The team has not won a playoff game at the Meadowlands since 2000.

PHUCK PHILLY. I WISH CURT WARNER AND THE CARDINALS ALL THE BEST IN BEATING THE BEAGLES. WHO THE HELL DOES PHILLY THINK THEY ARE...FIRST THE WORLD SERIES AND NOW ONE GAME FROM THE SUPER BOWL. DON'T PEOPLE KNOW DONAVAN MCNABB RAISES AND KILLS PITBULLS...
McNabb has no class - couldn't believe that crap he pulled at the end of this game, over by the Giants bench. Even the commentators had to say, "sometimes I just don't know what goes through his head"
Sore losers. Que the mets.
Great game. Also great call by McNabb at the end!
"The team has not won a playoff game at the Meadowlands since 2000."
That's a pretty ridiculous "statistic," since this is only the second home playoff game they've played during that period. Hardly a meaningful trend.
Ah! Such a good day to be an Eagles fan! McNabb's phone call= unsportsmanlike but hilarious. Take a joke, ya sore losers! Wooohoooo!
"GIANT FAILURE"
New York daily News
the curse of plaxico!!!!
I had it Eagles 21-17, but I'll take this. Eagles v Ravens superbowl.
Ahh, the joys of being a NY sports fan.
Eli sucks. Last year was a fluke.
What happened to the defense? No pass rush. The secondary played about 10 yards off those scrubby Philly receivers. McNabb was scrambling like Fran Tarkenton. I hope this mess takes the bloom off of Steve Spagnulo. Eli was simply awful-picked a good time to have a shitty game. Oh well.
Welcome to the off season. Now let's hope our old NFC East buddies can take out the Eagles next week.
I think Giants fans who are obsessing about McNabb's telephone antics are trying to deflect attention from the fact that their golden boy stunk to high heaven yesterday. The Eagles weren't even getting that much pressure on him and he was floating that ball all over the place.
I really don't think McNabb was trying to rub it in, that's just McNabb being McNabb...he's a goofball, and that's what Joe Buck was referencing when he said he didn't know what goes through his head sometimes.
And re: the decision to take the ball rather than the wind: I may be a little fuzzy on the NFL rulebook, but I'm pretty sure both teams play 30 minutes in the same direction. I can't see how that was a deciding factor in this game.
I couldn't care less about McNabb picking up the phone like that and I thought it was stupid that he got penalized. I didn't even see it because I was watching that Giants coach simultaneously slap McNabb on the butt 4 or 5 times. That was much more disturbing than the phone thing.
Congrats to the Eagles, though I won't be rooting for them. The Giants had their chances but without Plax they needed a good performance from Eli and they sure didn't get that. He may have a Superbowl MVP award and he may be going to the pro bowl this year but he sure looked crappy yesterday. The defense played well despite being put in bad positions by the offense all day. Still a good year overall.
