Invite-Only Sweeps Over Smaller Venues
Mere mortals were probably left in the cold this week for some private invite-only shows featuring bold face name performers. First up, Cat Power played a short celebratory set for the launch of her good friend William Van Meter’s book: “Bluegrass: A True Story of Murder in Kentucky.” The venue was much more intimate than her usual shows, taking place at Union Pool in Brooklyn which holds around 150 people. Spin reports back saying "During her five-song set, Marshall -- in jeans, a cardigan, and a dress shirt with a tie -- played her own material and a series of covers." To learn more about the book, here's a clip of the author describing it in his own words.
Another invite-only event went down Thursday night following the Stephen Sprouse "Rock on Mars" exhibit opening at Deitch. Seems Louis Vuitton honored the late artist with three events, one of which was held at Bowery Ballroom with Marc Jacobs. Blondie herself, Debbie Harry, played a set and the venue was "expected to have a Sprouse feel, with a special graffiti-and-neon decor." - Jen Carlson

Go away dirty hippies!
Phish had broken up? Wait, four years ago? Jesus, I know bands that wait that long between albums without breaking up and announcing getting back together.
phish is back - hide your money under the soap! (since you can't hide money under good taste.)
Don your helmets lads, we have to defend our dumpsters against the freegans again.
Name one song. No? The best crop?
heroin sales will be up!

I'm afraid you've got hippies, ma'am.
i thought gothamist-ers were open-minded folks. guess not. the music of phish is as dynamic, fluid, and free as the city that this blog is about. a bit disappointed about these comments. they are not just some hippie-band. you'll be surprised how many non-hippie ppl enjoy Phish.
You sound like you'd be surprised how many of the perennially unwashed ppl like phish.
