Last Night's Action: A Mess in Texas

  • Mavericks 99, Knicks 94: What's the best way to back up a 59-point first half? Hint: It's not scoring 35 in the second half. That's what the Knicks did at Dallas, and it cost them.

Chris Duhon had 24 points and seven assists, and Wilson Chandler had 20. Eddy Curry returned from his knee injury with 2 1/2 minutes of playing time and had a layup and two rebounds. But the team had 19 turnovers. Six Mavericks scored in double figures. New York hasn't won in Dallas since 1999. There's always next season.

  • Thrashers 4, Devils 0: This is what college professors would call an unexcused absence. The Devils got 29 shots, no goals and provided no drama in Newark. Scott Clemmensen, who has played so well, got yanked after allowing three goals. Kevin Weekes allowed the fourth. Now begins a five-game road trip.

  • Flames 5, Islanders 2: Know how many points the Islanders have in their last 14 road games? One. They are 0-13-1 in that stretch. Granted, Calgary is on fire flying right now, but at some point the Islanders need to wake up. How much worse can road games be than playing at Nassau Coliseum?
