Bloomberg Considering Republican Party Re-Do?

2009_01_bloombr.jpg Mayor Bloomberg loves to party... hop! Background: Bloomberg, a lifelong Democrat, became a Republican in 2001 to win the 2001—and 2005— mayoral elections, but in June 2007, he became an independent, perhaps setting up a third-party run for president. Well, we now we know that since Bloomberg didn't run for president, he had to get a short at a third mayoral term, so trying to get onto the Republican Party line is just the next logical step! The Post reports that "Bloomberg's political aides have started reaching out to GOP chairs in the five boroughs." Gristedes billionaire John Catsimatidis, who sees himself as the next billionaire mayor of NYC, says, "I've heard from Republican leaders he's been making phone calls." A GOP source tells the Post, "A lot of them [GOP leaders] told me they will not carry petitions for Mayor Bloomberg. They feel he bought us and sold us," but then again, "Let's be real. He's got $20 billion." Getting on the Republican Party could be important, since third-party candidates are listed lower on ballots.

BTW, the Village Voice is reporting that Bloomberg is gonna force the city's Industrial Development Agency to approve another $370 million in tax-free bonds to bail out the richest sports franchise in America yet again. And that two of the guys who "helped orchestrate the mayor's end-run around the term limits law—public relations czar Howard Rubenstein and developer Jerry Speyer—are both deeply involved in the [Yankee] stadium project: Rubenstein is the team's publicist; Speyer is building its new ballpark."

So much for Mayor Mike not being beholden to special interests...

The financiers, developers and corporate titans who Bloomberg represents will make sure the GOP welcomes him back. Personal newspaper publishing friends Mort Zuckerman, Rupert Murdoch and Arthur Sulzberger will also continue to do their parts to ensure a third term for Mayor Mike.

Unrest in Gaza and he rushes back to the arms of the hawkish GOP.

    Shocking.

Bloomberg is corrupt and heartless. I hope the federal judgement due in a few weeks kills his anti-democracy bill that extended term limits. This man went to Israel and said one Israeli life is worth 100 palestinian lives. He is a racist and cares nothing for this city. he cuts essential services to the bare essential yet demands more money for Israel. lets not forget all the scandals

slush funds, jet stadium, yankee stadium, extending term limits, massive ticketing of local residents and businesses etc

  • ANGRYGOD11

Did he really said that about Palestinian lives because I can't find any such direct comments online. Bloomberg is a lot of things, but he's not that stupid.

“ The richest mayor in the world digs in his heels to stop some of the poorest workers in the city from getting a very long overdue raise. Nice.”

City Defies State on Day Care Pay Increases

  • NannyState
