Parking Permit Abuser Shamed Into Relinquishing Perk

010809park1.jpg Chalk up another one for tabloid journalism: On the same day that the Daily News published galling photos of a former MTA board member illegally parking with a police-issued parking permit, the so-called "perk jerk" surrendered the placard—which he was supposed to do last year. Alan Friedberg, who hasn't been on the MTA board since 2003, was photographed on Sunday parking his Jaguar in a restricted zone near Times Square. Last year the MTA cut back on the number of authority-issued permits by 15% to 295, and Friedman was one of three board members who had failed to give back the perk. In justifying his ongoing air of entitlement to the News, he explained that he was a "pretty heavy worker" while serving on the board.

Fine, don't give city employees parking permits!

But what about the City honchos who don't even require permits, like those in chauffeured limousines, where the driver can instead sit in the car to avoid a parking ticket in an illegal zone, or just drive around and around till the honcho needs the car.

For instance, the DOT Commissioner, Janette Sadik-Khan, wants everyone to walk or ride the subway, bus or bike, but she has her own chauffeur to drive her around and park outside in an attended car waiting for her return.

Sounds like a case of "Do as I say, not as I do." Would the DOT Commissioner be willing to surrender her chauffeured limo and practice what she preaches?

You are incorrect. Sadik-Khan does not ride around in chauffeured limousines.

She indeed does have a private chauffeur paid for at taxpayer's expense.

To mention one example, she came out of a Christmas party at the Fireman's Museum in Hudson Square, three sheets to the wind, jumped into the waiting limo, and was driven to her home in Village, less than a mile away. You, I and the other plebes would get arrested for DWI.

Others have also witnessed her in her private chauffeured limo.

If you don't believe me, contact FDNY commissioner Nick Scarpetta, who threw the party and who was there.

I have to believe "thefacts", since he seems to be the only genuine Jennette Sadik-Khan stalker posting on the gothamist.

She must be a fascinating character to stalk. It seems she is at once, a hippie, an elitist, a bike commuter, with a private chauffeur.

And in her spare time, the most productive person in New York City government.

I hope "thefacts" is taking careful notes so he can write an accurate biography of her after she succeeds Obama in 2017.

Oops, sorry about the double-post. Is there a way to remove them?

"Oops, sorry about the double-post. Is there a way to remove them?"

Start with getting your head out of your ass.

dude, when you are in a position of importance you get to do different things, so too bad.

it's like the idiots that complain obama's daughters are going to a private school.
um, he's the fucking president, why wouldn't they go to a private school?

Alan Friedberg is important? How so?

"in a position of importance you get to do different things,"

Really? Says who? You? Who decides who's important? You? Sadik-Khan? Get real, buster!

Obama is paying for his daughters' school. You and I and the taxpayer's are paying for the private chauffeur of an elitist hypocrite, who wants everyone else to walk or take the MTA. Even her boss takes the subway occasionally.

I don't know why you are the apologist for this hyopocrie, but get off your knees and wipe that brown stain from your nose, dude.

So we now know that "the facts" has never held a position important enough to warrant their employer to pay for car fare when on company business.

I passed that mark as a $12.00 an hour Telex repairman back in 1984.

No wonder your main "occupation" is stalking the DOT commissioner.

You "know"?
You "know" shit, my friend. I could buy and sell you!

I don't own a car and don't tolerate hypocrites who do and the tell others to take the subway.

But I do feel sorry for their pathetic little sycophants like you who fail to address the question because your nose is so far up JSK's ass.

10 bucks says this guy made a color copy of his permit, laminated it, and then handed in the original.

I live on a police block in Manhattan, parking for police only, fine not a big deal, makes sense. However, at least a third of the permits displayed in the cars (these are their civilian cars, not police vehicles) blatantly have color copied permits, some are even so lazy and/or cheap that they have black and white copies of permits, and a couple months ago I even saw a blank piece of paper in the windshield with his PO# written in marker.

Plenty of cops might be on power trips, but for the most part we're not talking about high and mighty rich people who think they're better than everyone else. But if they aren't fortunate enough to have one of the 70,000+ permits the NYPD issues, all they have to do is make a copy or write the equivalent of an IOU in their windshield (no meter maid is ever going to make them pay for it), which definitely rubs me the wrong way. Any of Bloomberg's efforts (which I don't believe are sincere) to crack down on parking permits completely ignore the unbreakable culture behind the whole institution, especially when talking about police officers.

Again, the police have a right to close off parking to civilians, but all the bogus parkers then cause those with legitimate permits to spill over to other avenues and blocks, thus screwing the entire neighborhood's parking availabilities. If I ever own a car, which one day I hope to, I definitely need to live at least 5 blocks away from a police station.

PS, Alan Friedberg can go to heck, a**hole.

So you've turned it in. You're still a douche.

>> "Any of Bloomberg's efforts (which I don't believe are sincere) to crack down on parking permits completely ignore the unbreakable culture behind the whole institution, especially when talking about police officers."

You nailed it right on the head. The "unbreakable culture" problem exists because most of our police are migrant workers from America.

You know: Single family houses, lawns, kids and (most importantly), CARS, CARS, CARS.

Then they are thrown into this alien culture: Apartments, graduate degrees, museums, rock clubs, libraries, etc, etc... and funny thing...

They can't relate.

In their world, a car represents freedom, independence, social status.

Unfortunately in our world a car represents noise, smell, congestion, health problems, injury and death.
