Report: Jumper Falls to Death at Empire State Building

We're hearing that a person jumped from the upper floors at the Empire State Building and that his/her body was found on the 25th floor landing. The last suicide at the building was in 2007, when an employee jumped out of a 69th floor window. Update: According to the Post, "A middle-aged woman plunged to her death today after she apparently jumped out a 39th-floor window of the Empire State Building." She worked at North Bay Apparel, offices; cops say she did not leave a suicide note.

I work on the 25th Floor and the story is accurate. I work on the 25th Floor at BBG-BBGM. My firm occupies the full floor with a set back terrace at every corner of the building. Ar around 11:00-11:30AM a body fell past the south facing window at the southwest corner. Our staff ran to the window and were horrified to see the women laying there. She was still breathing when she landed and a number of our employees went out onto the terrace to be with her. She died quickly, probably of massive trauma. We over hear police talking about reports coming from the 38th floor that they had seen her hanging from the 39th floor ledge. She was young, had done here make, was wearing fishnets andcute ballet-type slippers and a dress.

The police and fire department took over our floor and employees were directed to take a three hour break. We returned and she was still on the terrace, finally being removed around 3:00PM.

The Building Management send our firm flowers to thank us for our patience and apologize for any convenience. As you can imagine, no one wants to sit near the windows anymore.

I like this comment from the Post's message board:

"How many people are gonna leap to their death from that building before they get some window guards. I feel that building needs to take some responsibility for these suicides. If you're going through some rough times and you work there its so easy to open the window and jump."

Yeah, it's the building's fault for being so tall and jumper-friendly. Damn subway cars for being so easy to leap in front of, too.

Maybe she had her life savings invested in North Bay and had some insider knowledge that they were about to go belly up.

one of the things I liked about older skyscrapers is the fact that I can open the window. I hope this doesn't change things.

It was a woman in her sixties, a receptionist in one of the offices on the 39th floor.

in 2007 a lawyer who had bi polar issues jumped.

Saw it from our window facing the ESB.

Suicide is sad and no one should feel that

hopeless and powerless over their own fate.
