Rain All Day

Morning weather map from weather.com

Periods of rain should last all day long and well into the evening hours. The primary cause is a storm developing just off the coast. The details are a bit hairier as they involve isentropic lifting this morning, an upper-level disturbance later today and finally the approach of a cold front this evening. The end result is plenty of rain in the city with a high only in the 30s. The rain, combined with frozen ground and ice in some places, has led to a flood advisory for the city and suburbs.

Look out for a windy thursday. The coastal storm will strengthen rapidly as it heads toward the Canadian maritimes (didn't we write this about last week's storm? Why, yes, yes we did), leading to a steep pressure gradient and winds around 20 mph gusting to 30-40 mph. There may be a stray leftover rain or snow shower but the clouds should break up as the day progresses. High tomorrow in the upper 30s.

Much calmer and drier conditions should prevail starting Friday. Aside from as slight chance of snow showers on Saturday we should be in for several days of mostly sunny and cool weather. High temperatures from Friday through Monday should be in the lower to mid 30s.

My Scrabble opponents are going to be pissed when I drop "isentropic" on them.
