Pencil This In

0109pseeger.jpg MUSIC: Oh how we adore Pete Seeger, he played Brooklyn Botanic Garden with his grandson in September, and tonight he's playing at a WFUV event. They're presenting the Woody's Children 40th Anniversary Celebration, which honors all those decades of Bob Sherman's classic WFUV radio show dubbed Woody's Children. Along with Pete Seeger, you'll catch performances by Tom Chapin, Christine Lavin, Doug Mishkin, Tom Paxton, Peter Yarrow and more.

8 p.m. // Merkin Concert Hall [129 W 67th St] // $40

EVENT: Dorkbot is back. The night will feature "People doing strange things with electricity," and more specifically Zach Lieberman, openFrameworks; Di Mainstone, Hands-On Get-up; Jay Van Buren, Brooklyn Is Watching. They ask that you bring snacks to share, and a theme song if you got one. More details here.

7 p.m. // Location One [20 Greene St] // Free

DRINK: The week is half way over, so why not celebrate with some 25ยข bourbon? On top of the cheap drinks, which will be served up for two hours, Ellis Bar will deliver some bluegrass to set the mood.

9 to 11 p.m. // Ellis Bar [627 5th Ave, Park Slope] // Free

THEATER: After a sold-out run in February 2008, Temporary Distortion returns to P.S. 122 with Welcome to Nowhere (bullet hole road), as part of the COIL festival, which starts tonight. The menacing road movie/play juxtaposes lushly captured video with hypnotic live performance; confined within a small but elaborately designed boxlike installation, the actors draw the audience into their blood-stained world with irresistible intensity. We don't advocate drug use (unless you're offering), but if there was ever a play to spark a jay at, this is it. Four shows only! — John Del Signore

10:30 p.m. // P.S. 122 [150 First Avenue at East 9th Street] // $20

Seeger and his friends will probably turn it into a Hamas fund raiser.

Pete "last played NYC" on November 28th at Carnegie Hall with his grandson, Arlo Guthrie, and Guthrie's family.

Pete Seeger cancelled due to a cold. The show's producers knew at 4 pm but didn't tell the box office. I understand that sometimes people have to cancel, and refunds aren't always possible, but why didn't they put up a sign at the box office once they knew that Pete Seeger wasn't coming so that people (like me) who bought a ticket that night could make an informed decision?
