We were all warned, the East River State Park in Williamsburg has officially been closed for the winter months, leaving the hipster set nowhere to ironically off-season tan. Curbed reports from the frontlines, saying the gate was locked on January 1st "so the state could save money and it won't reopen until April 1." How much will the closure save? Forty thousand dollars. State Assemblyman Joe Lentol is still working on an alternate plan to keep the park open, involving the NYPD holding the keys to the gate.
If you really feel the need to absorb the freezing cold waterfront air this winter, Curbed is also reporting that the nearby North Fifth Street Pier, behind Northside Piers, has officially opened to the public. Getting there might be tricky, though: "To reach it, one walks down N. 5 Street through the Northside development and down a long and spooky wooden tunnel before emerging into sunlight." And once you've reached the light at the end of the tunnel, Gowanus Lounge reports that self-important artistes may be awaiting.

Looks nice!
jesus christ jen. why are you such a cranky bitch about everything that happens in williamsburg?
seriously, she's not even from here and she has them whine about everything in williamsburg like it's a whole class of people. weirdo.
anyway, is 40,000 italicized because it's a large amount of money or a small amount of money? cause, relatively, it's a small amount. bad writing, because the writer is not making their view clear.
"bad writing, because the writer is not making their view clear."
Ah, but what if the intent was to leave that in doubt?
Presto! Brilliant writing!
Indeed, very ironic.
No, Jen Carlson is actually a terrible writer who hides behind the safety of brainless hipster jokes to validate her editorial credence. Stop bitching about what the young people are doing, grandma.
