On Election Night two months ago, it appeared that America was only sending one famous Harvard alum who was also a well-publicized cocaine user to Washington. Not so! Today the Minnesota State Canvassing Board certified results showing Democrat Al Franken as the winner of the Minnesota Senate race. Lizard people, unite!
This means that incumbent Senator Norm Coleman has now lost to two of the most comical figures in the recent political landscape: Franken and previously to Jesse "The Body" Ventura in the 1998 race for Minnesota's governorship. Coleman's biggest victory, winning the senate seat in 2002, came after incumbent Senator Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash two weeks before the election.
Coleman is now expected to challenge the victory in court. The win may be Franken's greatest achievement since Franken as Stuart Smalley was able to get pro ballers Charles Barkley and Mugsy Bogues to bury the hatchet in 1993.

I used to see Al Franken on West End Avenue or the W 72nd Street subway stop, but now he has abandoned us to help lead Minnesota.
No Jen, He went to Washington to help us.
(he is a New Yorker after all)
Why?
He's good enough,
He's smart enough,
And doggonit' the majority of the voters in the state of Minnesota voted for him !!!!!!
(thank you Minnesota)
I have a severe loathing for Al Franken. I blame his unfunny Stewart Smalley and because of that wanted him to lose in everything he does.
Given that Al Franken is not funny, I'm almost inclined to believe he'll be better in a serious role (e.g., as a U.S. Senator) than in a comedic one.
you get a feeling franken is a dbag, but i love that a former air america headliner is now a senator not long after the 'permanent republican majority'.
this is a sign that the end of days is near. not only is franken a total douchebag, he was never even funny; at least he didn't carpetbag his way into the bleeding hearts of new yorkers. he's a stain on the democrats, and there are just too many questions as to the legitimacy of his 'win'.
this is a sign that the end of days is near. not only is coleman a total douchebag, he was never even funny; at least he switched sides, ungraciously and narrowly won a seat against the late paul wellstone, and took advice from karl rove. he's a stain on the republicans, and there are just too many questions as to the true magnitude of his 'loss'.
Jen...does Franken's victory, and a Dem's victory in Colorado, now give the party the magic 60 votes needed to halt a filibuster?
Whether Franken is deserving or not (see: douchebag references, above), it seems to me his political CV is not much more impressive than that of Caroline Kennedy.
No, because Saxby Chambliss won the runoff in Georgia there will only be 59 Democrats (sort of). There was already a Dem in Colorado.
I LOVE AMERICA!!!
