New Yorkers to Caroline: No, Actually We Don't Know

2009_01_CKsketch.jpg A new poll released is showing that—surprise, surprise—New Yorkers have soured on Caroline Kennedy since she began making her presence felt. Almost half say that their opinion of her has worsened over the last month. And while Caroline once had twenty percent more support to replace Hillary Clinton than the next most likely choice Andrew Cuomo, now that figure has flipped and Cuomo is favored by twenty percent more of state Democrats than the one-time first daughter. The New Yorker suggests that all of her "you knows" might be a desperate plea to connect with people and that maybe what she needs to regroup is a listening tour.

  • You know, Mrs. Schlossberg certainly has had her problems in her "campaign" for the Senate seat. I hope she has hired a good media consultant.

I hope that any governor picking a replacement Senator will base his/her choice on something more concrete than a media interview. Paterson should have narrowed the pick to a few finalists, named them publicly, and staged a debate. I bet there'd be plenty of coverage.

I don't want to get Gothamist off on a tangent, but...

snoopydog - Ike got us into Vietnam. Not JFK.

  • Brooklynbobby

Bottom line: Anyone who has seen her interviewed on TV instantly knows she isn't qualified for the position.

  • Tgirl

    [7] lest we forget

Princess Caroline has never ran for anything, but she would accept the seat if it were simply handed to her. The same seat that Hillary stepped into when she ran unopposed in the primary. Don't like the implications.

  • snoopydog

You know, well you know her father was president of the US and he was greatly loved you know. Why? Because, you know he was a young president and told good jokes you know. Look how he got us out of Cuba and into Vietnam? A great smile covering up a sham. The Irish charm at it's best.

At least he was good looking and witty, she ain't either.

  • tingo

What qualifies her over any other politician or activist? Beyond name and connections. Just wondering.

  • Toby von Meistersinger

    How about Shelly Silver?

This may be the way to get rid of him once and for all.

  • NannyState

Even Gov. Blagojevich wouldn't appoint that nasty piece of shit.

  • Toby von Meistersinger

The idea would to get rid of him for a couple of years then he would most likely not get elected because there would be no way anyone upstate would vote for him. It would basically kill of his career.

  • Pull My Finger

    she is a dumb ass

  • Spirit of 76

Written with the true eloquence of someone who will never achieve a fraction of what Kennedy has.

  • Pull My Finger

She would be turning tricks in the south Bronx if she was not born with a silver spoon in her dumb ass mouth.

  • The Edge

Fraction of what? Her estimated fortune of $100 million, which she still refuses to disclose?

What exactly has she done for anyone besides herself?

  • west side Michael

Ditto on the new look ,it stinks!

However we will get used to it.

As a Democrat, I can't really think of

anything Hillary did for this state as

    a carpetbagger from Arkansas.

Caroline will be worse than Clinton.

I would love to get rid of Chris Quinn

so maybe someone should urge her to run.

I remember when she used to be on the side

on we little renters of apartments in NYC.

You know "the little people" who check you in

to the hospital and bag yo' groceries etc.& etc.

She is now a big Bloomberg swinger.

Ugh! Punish her ,send her to DC.

  • Spirit of 76

Every time somebody foolishly brings up a "carpetbagger" allegation, I have to wonder, "So what have all the native New Yorkers up in Albany done for the state?" Silver? Bruno? How about our "beloved" Rep. Rangel? Isn't he just the picture of ethics? Or is the fact that he comes from NY all that matters?

  • Bluealways

I wouldn't worry about a Kennedy dynasty. After the boomers die off, their puddle pretty much dries up. They fondly remember Jack and Bobby. But everyone under 40 associates the Kennedys with the guy who got acquitted of rape, the guy who wasn't charged with manslaughter, and the guy who wasn't good at flying.

  • jackdonaghy

So when the hell is Paterson going to make a decision? At halftime of the Super Bowl? Right after the Obamas choose a dog? During May sweeps?

  • eyekantspel

it IS disturbing to think about. Caroline has no credentials apart from name and her presumed access to Obama. What with the Kennedys, Clintons and Bushes, we may as well have a monarchy. We'd save a lot of $ on elections and avoid all those ballot counting problems.

  • Mr Mel

    I'm a fan of Gothamist's new look.

I have a solution to the Senate seat vacancy.

    Caroline is out.

    The perfect candidate is available.

Chelsea Clinton, named for 2 of the hipper sections of Manhattan (whether she knows it or not). Available and very slightly better looking than Caroline. With no sense of entitlement and the ability to handle crisis (she survived her father's shenanigans). She'll have the ear of the Secretary of State and will be able to operate as a single woman just as her mother's predecessor.

The only negative that I've heard, is her fondness for Michael Jackson.

  • Ared

    Meant Basil Paterson, obvs.

  • Ared

The son of Basil Kennedy is considering appointing the daughter of John Kennedy to fill the seat held by Bill Clinton's wife.

Why'd we bother signing the Declaration of Independence?

  • eyekantspel

not a fan of Caroline for Senate. also not a fan of Gothamist's new look.
