Obama Begins Pushing Soon to Arrive Stimulus Plan

In between returning to Chicago from his weeklong vacation in Hawaii and his imminent move to Washington, President-elect Obama took a moment to drop his weekly address, where the focus was the economic stimulus package that he is putting together to present before Congress.

After some initial hopes that the stimulus package could possibly be signed on Obama's first day in office, word this week was that Republican lawmakers might stall that from happening to thoroughly comb over the proposal. Obama was encouraging rapid movement on the plan today, saying, "Economists from across the political spectrum agree that if we don’t act swiftly and boldly, we could see a much deeper economic downturn that could lead to double digit unemployment and the American Dream slipping further and further out of reach."

Word is that the new stimulus plan, expected sometime this week, could run from $675 to $775 billion.

yeah, sheesh, be glad SOMEONE is taking some initiative!

He's filling a vacuum left by George W. Bush. That asshole is still the president and yet he is showing so little leadership, it's not just embarassing, it's troubling. So look to your own, Ides, and STFU about the competent adults on the other side of the aisle from you.

Business, banks and the stock market do not react well to uncertainty. By telling all of us what he's going to do after the election and before his inauguration he's avoiding economic panic or paralysis. How good for all of us he's doing his job before he has to.

Smartest President Elect Ever™ is making presidential "weekly addresses" already? LOL. He's like a kid playing a politician. Fake seal, fake "office of president-elect". Might even invade Pakistan before being sworn in.

  • optimist

#6 He will have his chance soon. No more 'one president at a time' excuses. Grab some popcorn, its going to be hilarious.

  • jibbly

Class? I see a highly motivated and inspired man who wants to get a jump start on helping this country revive itself. Someone had to take the reins because obviously old georgie boy and tricky dick haven't been doing much of that in the past several months. Guess what, who better to do it than the next president? What, you thought the problems would wait around until he was officially sworn in?

Your bitterness is undercooked, bland, and withou depth or substance. Try again please!

    America lacks class.

    Ides,

I completely agree. Obama lacks class, but the people you were supporting in the recent election -- McCain and Palin -- well they just ooze with class.

A classier guy would wait till he actually takes the oath of office before giving his presidential weekly addresses, but then again this is the guy who had to have his own personalized presidential seal made before the election even happened and an 'official' seal made for an office that doesn't actually exist after the election.

That would likely be Billion, not Million.
