Thomas Jones Not So Happy with Brett Favre

Earlier this week, Jets running back Thomas Jones was on Hot 97, where Mister Cee wanted to know what Jones felt about "Brett Favre throwing the team under the bus"—and Jones let him know. He said, "We're a team and we win together ... but at the same time, you can't turn the ball over and expect to win... The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. I mean, that's just reality. If I were to sit here and say, 'Oh, man, it's OK,' that's not reality. ... I don't like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn't like it.

Jones even said Favre should have been benched: "If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game. You're jeopardizing the whole team because you're having a bad day. To me, that's not fair to everybody else. You're not the only one on the team. So when you get to the wire and somebody is just giving the game up, I mean, it's just not [fair]."

Ouch. An anonymous player told Newsday that Favre was "distant" with teammates, something that wasn't helped by the fact that the Jets gave Favre his own private office, away from teammates. The player added, "He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone."

Another ouch: The Daily News' Gary Myers writes, "Brett Favre's meltdown in the last five games of the season got Eric Mangini fired, and now the possibility he will be their quarterback next season could scare away coaches."

Favre should use his little muscle tear as an excuse to retire--issue some press release about realizing his mortality and wanting to be able to enjoy his golden years instead of sitting in a wheelchair yada yada yada--and call it a day. Yeah, he was one drive from getting back into the Superbowl eleven months ago but that was a fluke. His retirement drama, all of his truly dreadful interceptions down the stretch, etc. are tainting his legacy faster than you can say "MJ in a Wizards jersey hawking underwear during commercial breaks on the WB."
