Disabled Man Left on Bus for 19 Hours

2009_01_frzbus.jpg A 22-year-old East Harlem man with cerebral palsy was found, suffering from hypothermia, after spending nearly a day in a freezing bus. Edwin Rivera, who doesn't speak, should have been dropped off at home yesterday afternoon, after attending a program for the disabled, but apparently the driver forgot and brought the vehicle to the bus depot in Brooklyn. WCBS 2 reports that his parents reported him missing, but the bus company didn't find him when they searched last night. His parents joined the search this morning and found him—and his mother was happy and annoyed, "I'm so relieved and I'm so mad at the bus company for leaving him. He's not a kid. He's almost 6'2" how do you miss him?" Criminal charges may be filed against the driver.

School buses are required to clear the bus and post a sign that it has been checked. Amazing these buses don't have the same requirement.

How hard can it possibly be to walk down and aisle and look.

Like #2 said, how hard is it to make sure the bus is empty? Some people need to get fired.

the best part of this story:

Bus matron Linda Hockaday, who was charged last night with reckless endangerment, told police she left Ed Wynn Rivera sleeping in his seat "because she was late for church," police sources said.
i'm sure jesus was glad she was on time.

Another example of the hypocrisy of formalized religion.

not really. more an example of a stupid human being.
