Here are our picks for the top stories that affected NYC and our state this year. It's been a very eventful year.
Upper East Side Crane Collapse, May 30: Not two months after the fatal Midtown crane collapse, a crane fell at a site on East 91st and First Avenue. Two construction workers were killed as the Department of Buildings believed a faulty weld in the crane's turntable caused the collapse. The crane had been damaged after being struck by lightning, but it was welded and put back in use. The DOB suspended crane activity and a crane inspector for the DOB was arrested for corruption (but not for this incident). (Photograph after the collapse by seth_holladay on Flickr)

Every day I give thanks that my wife and kids are healthy and I still have a desk waiting for me. Good luck to you all in 2009!
Thank you for a Year in Review that didn't make me want to barf. Here's to 2009!
You missed the best story of the year... How can you not include the President's near death by shoe? Love him or hate him that had to be one of the top three by my estimate.
