Man's Body Found in Bag in the Bronx

2008_12_drjh.jpgPolice say that on Sunday morning, the body of 22-year-old John Hopkins-Drago was found by a super at 2161 Barnes Avenue in the Bronx. Hopkins-Drago had been stabbed—a police source told the Daily News, "He was stabbed at least 40 or 50 times in the head, neck, and chest"—and his body had been put in a plastic bag. WCBS 2 quoted a neighbor: "They found the body in a shopping cart, chopped up, right here in the back of this building." Hopkins-Drago was reportedly estranged from his family; when the News called relatives for comment, they "quickly hung up the phone." The victim, who was seen on Saturday, may have been recently kicked out of a friend's apartment. Police are looking for suspects.

So many stories in the naked city, here's another one that just gets pushed aside by scum like Bernie Madoff.

  • xanemicRoyalty

it's very strange to me that so many people who didn't know him bother to comment on this....i did know him and i haven't even heard so much commentary from people i actually know... it wasn't random. he pissed a lot of people off.

"Man's Body Found in Bag in the Bronx"

Will that be paper or plastic?

  • Snoopy

Obviously there is more to the story than has been told so far. Some person or persons unknown definitely did like this guy's attitude. Any mob or drug connections? Money owed? come on NYPD do your job or I'll call Kojak or Sam McCloud.

Mihow, these people spewing hate may not care after they're dead, but I bet if it was a close call either with an attacker or an accident leaving them alive but permanently crippled or at least in the hospital, they would certainly be offended by people writing that they had it coming.

  • JacqueMehoff

not much mentioned last night except for some reason the news kept saying he's adopted.

  • Steven

What an awful story. Seemed like the guy had problems and his family never wanted to help him or maybe he didn't want to help himself.

  • mihow

Life would be a lot better if people allowed themselves to feel more compassion as well, which tends to be at an all time low here when it comes to the Gothamist comments section.

But I bet you're nothing like this in real life. Because if some of you acted even remotely this asinine in real life, you might find yourself getting the shit kicked out of you regularly.

Or, maybe you do get the shit kicked out of you regularly by someone in your life—a boss, a girlfriend, your parents—and that's why you write the things that you do?

  • JacqueMehoff

now if this guy was disposed of in the river it could have been done by that smiley face killa.

  • Guest

Amen, Zodak! And if people really cared what others said about them after their death, they would be better people during their life. This guy doesn't sound like he was a saint, by any definition of the word.

  • MFer

@mihow - At that point you would be dead. So by definition you really wouldn't, can't care.

  • zodak

mihow, if i were killed, i wouldn't care what people wrote about me on the internet because i'd be....dead.

  • w0wzers

    mihow, Welcome to the internet.

  • mihow

To those of you suggesting he deserved this:

Say you're killed tomorrow in the same manner—stabbed that many times and found dead in a bag in the Bronx.

The following day your death makes the news. Commenters such as yourself (because there are far too many sphincters out there) copy your insensitive, shit-ass comments and paste them into a comment and suggest you had it coming to you.

Does that sit well with you? Are you that empty inside?

  • Buck Owens

This sounds like the work of Dexter.

  • NannyState

    Work of a predator? Horrific.

  • ides_of_march

...when the News called relatives for comment, ..."

Media people are such a bunch of crass, insensitive, disgusting vultures.

  • smitty

It's a total overkill, so obviously it's someone who knows him.

  • gimme

i dub the killer, if he or she kills again, the russkie slasher

  • mdow

"he always had beef with a lot of people."

he was kicked out of every place he lived, and disowned by his family.

lemme go out on a limb here and say that it sounds like he was one great guy who definitely didn't have it coming...

  • horrific. r.i.p.

  • Rocknrope

    If he dies, he dies.

  • Mr Mel

A man is judged by the company he keeps. He was known to his attackers.

  • NYRefugee

Someone's Christmas is REALLY gonna suck this year.

  • AvenueHebrew

He was probably giving the killer the same pissy look he has in that photo.

  • BlackieJones

40-50 times???? Wow, someone was PISSED at him!

  • mihow

That's a horrible story, truly horrible.
