I worked at Kozmo in the content department so I had no dealings with the actual deliveries. I do however remember rumors that the creator inadvertently gave his business plan to the guys who eventually started Urban Fetch. Of course in the end neither survived the internet bust. As far as these guys are concerned more power to them. Of course I'll continue to just order from the deli directly. I know of at least one in Williamsburg that delivers 24/7.

I remember Kozomo.com; if they had just stayed in new york (where their model worked) and not taken a gazillion dollars inventure capitol they would still be around. I love that these guys will bring frozen pirogies, that's a must at 2am.

Zodak, I've used MaxDelivery a couple of times - definitely speedy but found out it doesn't deliver throughout all of Manhattan. Plus, only delivers til midnight. Slight markup on prices of products but I guess that's a tax on laziness. I've only used it when I was sick and dying in bed.

ha! I remember when I lived in Manhattan, in the days of Kozmom my girl at the time got such a kick out of the fact that they would deliver a single frozen Snickers bar, at 2am, and did not accept tips!

I did delivery for kozmo for a while. It was slick on the local level, they had a good website up and great back-end, but it was in a race against multiple competitors and went crazy to expand into many cities. Then I guess the dot com bust happened and there were no more investors. I don't know why they didn't just team up with blockbuster at that point and do local delivery in their strongholds of san francisco and nyc, but i guess no one wanted to invest in anything at that point. but this could work. it's kind of on the level of a kid and a lemonade stand, but it has a lot of potential (as long as it doesn't get too popular...)

Kozmo ruled. It was also the first thing that came to mind when reading this story. My guess is that a significant number of people in the target audience were not around to remember Kozmo. As great as it was, anyone with three brain cells to rub together could plainly see it was doomed to fail. It was far too inexpensive for the labor involved. Good while it lasted. Those orange and green sacks were pretty stylish too.

urbanfetch and kozmo were truly the greatest things to happen during my freshman year of college. the problem was they didn't have mandatory minimum orders. they died on the backs of stoned kids like me ordering one movie and a milky way bar. add a $10 minimum or a delivery charge for orders less than that, and this should work.

Apparently this concept does not want to die, even after the unbanfetch and kozmo experiences. I think the service has a future; i have seen it successfully implemented in third world countries.
