After Facebook removed photos of breast-feeding mothers from profile pages and albums, a protest group—on Facebook, naturally—has emerged. The "Hey, Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!" has almost 60,000 members who support nursing moms' right to post photos of breast-feeding their babies. The Daily News reports that Facebook only removes photos shown with full boob—Facebook wants the site to "[remain] a safe, secure and trusted environment for all users, including the many children [over the age of 13]"—but Mothers International Lactation Campaign has asked folks, on December 27, "change your profile picture for one day, to one which includes an image of a nursing mom." A Brooklyn lactation consultant tells the News, "The more people see breast-feeding, the more normal it becomes. It's a natural, beautiful state to be in." Previously, breast-feeding moms have taken on Toys R Us, Barbara Walters, and formula.

What is the point behind breast feeding in public other than exhibitionism? Same thing with this stupid crusade.
No, I don't want to see you pop out your breast and start feeding your baby. Thanks for asking.
You like to breaetfeed. Good for you. But must you shove it in everyone's faces? All the empty outrage, I just can't give a damn.
@supernova: Generally, the point of breast feeding in public is NOT exhibitionism, but necessity. Sometimes your baby needs to eat and you can't always find a private and sanitary place. It's not my ideal situation, but sometimes the best of plans can go awry and I'm not going to have my baby go hungry for my own vanity or the potential discomfort of others.
As for Facebook, seems like there must be far worse kinds of posts and pictures for them to go after than these.
Jesus. With all the shit going on in the world right now, it's good to know we have organizations like the MILC here that are willing to take a stand on the important issues.
"The more people see breast-feeding, the more normal it becomes. It's a natural, beautiful state to be in."
So, by the same argument, the more people see me swinging my nuts in public, the more normal it becomes?
Not.
gobama, for some mothers it's necessity, and I don't think anyone has an issue with that. However when these mothers start forming coalitions and having nurse-ins and insisting that everyone should be overjoyed to see their breastfeeding photographs, it's exhibitionism and attention whoring. If it really were a natural and normal thing for these women, they wouldn't feel the need to shove it in everyone's face--do they also have photographs of their kids spitting up or teething? That's natural and normal too.
And it's kind of sad that with all the real issues facing children--abuse, poverty, lack of medical care, failing public schools--THIS is what these mothers choose to support with their time and attention. That time could be better spent.
How some people are so sexually repressed, yet unaware, blows my mind. The same people that are promiscuos, like porn, etc....
Breastfeeding is the most beautiful thing in the world, it's an act of bonding and love between mother and child. No, they are not "flashing" people, they are feeding their babies (newsflash: that's what breasts are for)
Breastfeeding saves lives, it's a complete meal, all that a baby needs, prevents malnutrition, anemia, ailments. Even psychologically makes a child feel loved and protected. (it must be the reason why some morons are obsessed with big breasts, cuz they weren't breastfed).
HOORAY FOR BREASTFEEDING!!!!!
I honestly have no problem with breastfeeding in public, but there are some situations where its just plain weird. I've heard stories that it happens in the office in plain sight of everybody, during meetings, at restaurants, etc etc. It sucks when women do it in the strangest of places under the most odd of circumstances, just to prove a point.
Listen, whenever you feel your tits getting plump, just bottle that shit and take it with you. Whats wrong with busting out the breast pump, going to the bathroom, MILKING yourself, and THEN feeding the baby using a bottle???? Is that so hard to do?
""The more people see breast-feeding, the more normal it becomes. It's a natural, beautiful state to be in."
It will always be considered taboo and will NEVER be fully accepted in every situation. Give me a break.
Some kids don't take the bottle so they rely on the mom for nourishment. I am not sure why Facebook gives a shit about people posting these "obscene" pictures anyway. Anyone can find plenty of nude pictures all across the 'net without trolling facebook pictures. Facebook has no qualms with ads for singles dating sites popping up on their site. Let's promote random hookups while we make new friends! Dumbasses...
Taking a shit is natural but I don't want to see people pinching a loaf all over the place.
@Pull My Finger
Same goes with guys pissing out in the open and some don't even try to hide it. And I've seen too much of that shit going on.
[10] Geez, not that old chestnut. Some idiot always says that whenever this comes up. It's drinking, okay? Get the drift? Maybe you want people to not go to restaurants. I know I've seen some disgusting diners shoving their faces full of food and displaying abysmal table manners. Consumption ≠ elimination, comprende?
"Listen, whenever you feel your tits getting plump, just bottle that shit and take it with you. Whats wrong with busting out the breast pump, going to the bathroom, MILKING yourself, and THEN feeding the baby using a bottle???? Is that so hard to do?"
Actually, yes. It's more complicated. You may not always have your pump available-- they are one more cumbersome piece to carry around. They are also expensive and not every woman uses one. If you do, everything should be sterile-- a bathroom with a lounge might be okay, but most NYC bathrooms are not acceptable. There may not be an accessible bathroom around. It takes time- 30-40 min to pump. That's an issue if there's only a single stall bathroom or a hungry baby.
Like I said before, in my experience, women breast feeding in public do so out of necessity and not exhibitionism.
Of all the trash on facebook, this is what they go after?
I'm sure that most breastfeeding mothers are as discreet as they can and have no interest other than feeding their baby. I am also certain that there are attention-seeking women who use it as a form of in your face exhibitionism.
I recall a couple years back some nutjob woman was on tv telling us how natural it was for her to be breastfeeding her 8 year old son.
Anyone who compares breast feeding (in public or otherwise) to pissing in public or taking a shit in public is a Grade A Fucking Moron.
Mihow- they're both 'natural states'to be in.
And for the idiot above who says that most bathrooms are not acceptable because they're not sterile- how the fuck is the outdoors in Manhattan sterile?
"It takes time- 30-40 min to pump"
Damn. Isn't there like a valve you can turn or something to make it go faster?
i don't understand why men are complaining about breastfeeding, it's a chance to check out some milf's breasts. it's win/win.
also, facebook sucks. it's just free aol.
@17. Where would you rather eat your lunch or have it prepared? A bathroom stall or somewhere outside. I guess sterile is too strong a word- how about not completely contaminated? Obviously, women breast feed in places other than hospitals. The point is to keep things as clean as possible and yes, I'd much rather be on a park bench than on a public toilet.
Geez, the ignorance!
First, breastfeeding in public is not exhibitionism. It's to feed a baby. And some babies don't take bottles. Newborns need to eat 8-12x's a day and no mother shouldn't have to lock herself in her house because of someone's "sensibilties".
Secondly, mothers shouldn't have to pump because of some jerk who's uncomfortable. Can I go ask a fat guy in a speedo to please go somewhere else because he's making me uncomfortable? I think not.
Thirdly, breastfeeding in public is legal in most states where defecating, urinating and "showing one's nuts" is not. It's completely disgusting that people would compare eliminating waste to a baby EATING.
And lastly, there is MUCH more boob shown in other pictures posted in facebook than a breastfeeding mother!
Regardless of whether mothers need to breastfeed in public, there is no conceivable need to post a picture of it on Facebook.
> So, by the same argument, the more people see me swinging my nuts in public, the more normal it becomes? >
Seriously? This is your argument.
How come it's cool for ladies to wear tight shirts and low-cut blouses but when a breast is actually used for WHAT IT'S INTENDED PURPOSE IS it's suddenly disgusting and everyone (especially men) are all, "Eww, boobs! We don't want to see that!"
Because most of the tits being sucked on I see are from floppy deflated women. This does in no way turn my crank.
"Because most of the tits being sucked on I see are from floppy deflated women. This does in no way turn my crank."
Thank God. I sure hope nursing my baby would not turn your crank. BTW if you don't like what you see don't look. I feel sorry for your wife. You are disrespectful and sick and sound like a 15 year old. Very mature, congratulations to your accomplishment. If you want to get off from inflated breasts (oh yeah, those REALLY look natural and healthy) go rent a porn movie and watch it in private because I wouldn't be interested in your "crank" anyway. Moron.
Oh what a shame, Kojak! Because the breastfeeding mothers of the world do so just to get your sausage hard. All of their efforts have been in vain!
Idiot.
lol I should have came back to this thread sooner!
'Because the breastfeeding mothers of the world do so just to get your sausage hard'
Obviously.
