Kennedy's Voting Record Scrutinized

Know what NY tabloids love even more than a Kennedy being interested in the Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton? That Kennedy's voting records! Both the Daily News and NY Post review her voting records and find a spotty showing. Baruch College's Douglas Muzzio sums it up, "It doesn't speak to a deep-felt commitment to the electoral process."

Kennedy registered to vote in NYC back in 1988. She didn't vote in the 1989, 1993, 1997, and 2005 mayoral primaries. She didn't vote in the 1994 primaries or general elections (Senator Moynihan was running back then) or in the 2002 general election. She did, however, vote in the 1997 and 2005 general elections, plus the primary and general elections in 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2008.

Her spokesman said, "Caroline Kennedy recognizes just how important it is to vote and has a very strong record of going to the polls. She has not voted on a handful of occasions over the last two decades." And Governor Paterson suggested yesterday that Attorney General Cuomo might be interested in the Senate seat as well.

I don't see anything wrong with not voting in primaries. I've been voting for about 20 years, am a registered Democrat, and I think I've only voted once in a primary.

Voting in however, is very important. I don't understand from the text above if Kennedy voted or not in the 2002 general elections.

Definitely shows the power Sharpton has, when even 'American royalty' needs to meet with this crook before getting appointed Senator!

Turn-out is much, much lower in primaries-- which means that proportionally speaking, your vote is much more powerful. Since Democrats almost always win House/Senate/Assembly/Council seats in NYC, it makes little to no sense to vote in the General but not in the Primary.

I am sad to see that she's only voted 6 times in 20 years.

I'm also very upset with this process-- Senators should not be appointed under any circumstances. They should be elected.

I work with a Web designer whose name just happens to be John Kennedy (no relation). I think he should be senator.

In reference to the photo above. As the right reverend was suggesting that Caroline try the colored greens, she replied, "No thanks, I'll just have a biscuit with the delicate white house gravy. By the way reverend, do they always serve Colt 45 in a wine glass here? Nice suit. I thought only bankers wore three piece suits. Are you a banker?"

jeez you have to live a perfect life to run for office. I think this makes her more human and shows she's a busy woman- I only vote during major election years

is that All the dirt they can find on Kennedy. she has my vote. how about finding some dirt on Cuomo. You will need strong backs for that digging. How about millions he and his mother made by renting 1000 a night hotel rooms to the homeless which we paid for.

whether or not we peons vote in primaries is not the issue. the issue also is not whether or not it's worth "bothering" to vote for a Dem in NY since the "Dem candidate always wins". I don't care if she's a busy working mother "just like me".

The point is that this does indicate her level of interest and involvement in local and national politics over recent years.

How can you NOT vote --in a general election no less --if you have any interest in political service at all. How can you not vote if you're going to one day be out on the stump TELLING NEW YORKERS TO GET OUT AND VOTE!

I feel like she just woke up last week and decided she wants to play senator for a few years.

I'm jealous of that lunch.
pitchers of sweet tea, lemonade, cornbread, hot sauce. what looks like grilled or bbq chicken and a carrot.

Jacque, the bill came to $393 plus tax and tip and they didn't even have bottled wine. Are you sure you wanted to be there?

That picture was enough to convince me.

Did you kiss his big fat ass, Caroline?

Bitch can't even take the time to vote and wants to be our leader? F*** off! First get a job.

As Juan Gonzalez in the News points out today, Sharpton is a client of the same PR firm that is now leading Kennedy's campaign for the seat. Which is of course the reason we've been seeing the two of them together everywhere.

FUCK BOTH YOU GUYS!

I am quite certain Caroline, with refined culinary habits binged and purged that diarrhea inducing slop right after she ate it.

#12, are you sure you know how you feel about this? (LOL!)

"Everything was going fine at the lunch until Ms. Kennedy asked Mr. Sharpton if he had heard from Tawana Brawley lately..."

I hear Paris Hilton is getting the nod from Illinois.
