Police found three suspects involved in the shooting of the operator of Alex's Tobacco shop on Broadway at West 71st Street. WABC 7 reports the three were found at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The store's manager is stable condition after the 4:30 p.m. incident yesterday; according to the Post, "One of the men fired a shot into the air to announce they were robbing the store...[Then] one of the robbers then grabbed a box as the other fired a shot that hit the charging owner in the hip." (The shop is a popular lottery ticket destination, as it's right near the West 72nd 1/2/3 station.) Witnesses had seen two masked men leave in an idling car, which was later found abandoned on West End Avenue. And a resident told the Daily News, "I can't believe this happened in this neighborhood. It must be the economy."

LOVE the last sentence!
Yeah, they probably lost their shirts with Madoff.
I walked by around 730 and the area was crawling with cops and news camera's. I think we're gonna start to see a lot more violent crime now that the economy is depressed... what's more scary is that the economy hasn't hit rock bottom yet.
maybe that area will return to what it was like in the movie "Panic in Needle Park"
If you haven't seen it - i highly reccomend for some gritty NYC nostalgia
Unlikely the area will return to the halcyon days of Panic in Needle Park. Many of the SRO hotels of yesteryear have been converted to luxury apartments.
I was hoping to see the Warriors getting chased by the Furies around that area again.
