More details on the two suspects arrested Monday night in connection with a series of violent muggings in the West Village: the Post, in an article headlined "Village Vermin Busted," hears from an anonymous source in the NYPD, who says cops spotted them "lurking in the shadows of a building. Something was not right. They took off immediately." A witness describes the high-profile bust: "Two cop cars pulled up and other cops were running down the middle of street. The cop cars screeched up to the intersection. It was very dramatic. Neighbors even stuck their heads out their windows to watch. They were saying, 'Did they get them? Did they get them?'" And one of the suspects, 21-year-old Adam Temple of Crown Heights, allegedly tossed a 9 mm pistol aside before being tackled. The Post says he was later found with a stolen credit card.

Filthy, no-good bullies, preying on women they found walking alone on quiet streets. Lock these predators away for a looooooong time. I don't care what color they are (although it is tragic in this city where race is such an issue that this is about black men targeting white women,) these are predators, and they should not be allowed on our streets. If they were green or blue, they'd still be predators. Lock 'em up.
They should have shot them with their own gun and said they did a "Plaxico" as they were running.

If a well-dressed and accessorized black woman happened to walk by while they were staking out the neighborhood, do you think they would have given her a pass? Have they? Does anyone have the demographics on their victims, including those in the East Village and Chelsea?

Every news story I've read thus far has specified victims as white women in the West Village. If I am mistaken, apologies, but my point was that race was immaterial in the case. I was trying to stave off the inevitable racist comments. If I came across as creating my own, I am sincerely sorry.
they wouldn't have mugged a black lady. They wouldn't think she had enough money for them. Plus, she might put up a fight.

The last time I checked, there was no Stop Snitchin' policy in place in the West Village. Cops can't do their jobs if witnesses refuse to cooperate.

And what about the serial rapist that follows women from Union Square to East Village? He's also around 11th/12th Street, but on the east side of Fifth.

It's so sad that people like him give black people a bad name. Not that it would have been better if the mugger was of a different background, but it's SO stereotypical that he has to be black!
Amanda, except for a very few streets that are still frequented by gays, for the most part the West Village is clear of them. They moved up into Chelsea about twenty years ago.
Echoing major congrats to the NYPD and here's a request: Consecutive sentences, not concurrent ones.
While its obviously great that these scumbags are off the street, I still pine for the old West Village where the arrest would have been FAR less dramatic.
The "police report" would have been written on a napkin at Twin Donuts on 14th street (then thrown away) and the suspects...
