This works out great for him--most of his viewers are getting progressively OLDer, so it will be a nice switch for them to catch his lame-assed show at an earlier timeslot.

I only put Jay Leno on (instead of Letterman, since he's a bitter old bore) to pass the time while I wait for Conan

I agree ... Letterman is 100% not funny. I feel bad for his health condition but either he needs to fire his entire team of writers and replace them with people with a sense of humour and born after 1970 or he needs to just retire.

In the Year 2000: Jay Leno will host a nightly show at 10pm for NBC, but he still won't be funny.

A lot of television executives are obviously still in denial that "young people" care about their arbitrary "schedules." The era of the television audience scheduling their lives around programs is over. If the show isn't on Hulu, then its probably available from some Japanese pirate site, or a torrent, and if its not, its still only television; anyone who cares THAT much about television would have a DVR.

Meh, I suppose I'm a "young viewer" and I actually tend to be in bed by 10:30 most nights, so this doesn't even work for me.

I only put Jay Leno on (instead of Letterman, since he's a bitter old bore) to pass the time while I wait for Conan, so this means I'll be going to bed an hour earlier, which is fine with me.

But I might prefer to watch the news at 10.

It'll get decent enough ratings to stay around.
At this point that's a big plus in NBC's eyes.
And Leno likes to work.

The show could air at 3am or 3pm doesn't matter. Most people don't watch the show when it airs at its time slot anymore. The viewer makes up the time slot for shows now. People watch shows when they have the time to do so or when they feel like watching tv.

It's so obvious that NBC doesn't have enough money to invest in good programming. Also, the system that shows how many people are tuned in is outdated and doesn't account for people watching a program on DVR or online. TV and publishing need to both get their heads out of the dark ages.

This is going to bomb big time and NBC will have to scramble to find shows to fill up those five hours a week. Or maybe Leno will start putting people to sleep at 10 with his opening monologue. Cheap or not, when NBC's Nielsen numbers plummet in that time slot, they won't be able to give away the ad time. God, I can't stand Leno. First thing I do with any new issue of Popular Mechanics is rip his column out, always accompanied by a picture of his ugly mug as he grins at the camera while leaning on or sitting in one of his cars. His column is even more annoying than blown-in subscription cards.

He would have been better on the US version of Top Gear that NBC just decided to pass on. In fact, Leno was on the original BBC Two version this week.
This 10 pm Leno thing is just NBC being cheap, since it is 5 hours a week they don't have to fill with scripted shows, fakeality crap, or the even worse Dateline.

HEy guess what? you staying and being at 10 pm is already an insult to Conan. The only good thing is hopefully Conan will stop those Leno Pandering to the mainstream jokes that he's been practicing cause he doesn't have to anymore, Leno can do that. the only way this works now is that Conan will be conan at 11:30 and not Conan trying to hold onto that mainstream money. It's like when Chris Rock does pg-13 films. It's just sad.

Five years ago this wouldn’t have been a good idea, but more people — and younger people — are going to bed at 11 o’clock because they carpool or they have to get up at 6.
Whatever marketing genius came up with that logic needs to be fired immediately: Younger people want to watch Conan, not Jay Leno.
