Warm air is streaming northward today ahead of an approaching cold front. As a result the city will come close to a record high this afternoon. The record is 63 degrees set way back in 2001. At 11 a.m. it was 61, and the sun is peeking through the clouds, so the record is within striking distance!
The cold front that is headed our way has galloped across the Midwest, plunging the center of the country into a deep freeze. The temperature in Kansas City dropped 29 degrees in one hour yesterday morning! It won't cool off nearly as fast here but tomorrow's high will only be in the low 40s. Before it cools we will have to contend with scattered showers this afternoon and a steady rain overnight.
The jet stream is in total winter mode now as it is helping to produce one storm after another and zipping them across the country. While tomorrow afternoon may be dry, another front will approach tomorrow night. Tuesday night is looking like a messy rain/snow/sleet mix, with snow dominating north and west of the city and rain closer to the coast. The precipitation should change over to all rain by Wednesday before petering out. Thursday will be a day of rest but another rain/snow mix is likely on Friday. Sadly, with only ten days to go a white Christmas is looking doubtful.

Creepy.
way back in 2001? It's only 7 years ago.
where would one look to find weather records?
This weather is much better than the upper great plains is dealing with. I wonder how people live there. Temps below zero almost week with brutal wind chills.
UPDATE: 65*
Well I'm glad that spring has arrived. I didn't think I could take one more day of winter. What's that? 4 months? Oh, nevermind.
This winter looks much like the last with extreme cold and snow hanging around the midwest, but not here. In the east we get a quick jolt of cold now and then, but can't get any extended cold snaps going.

Maybe now they can use some of the TARP money to bail out ski resorts?
