Infamous Sodomy Cop Justin Volpe Begs Pardon

121508volp.jpgSo how many years should a police officer spend in jail for sodomizing a handcuffed suspect with a broomstick? Justin Volpe, the cop who was convicted of torturing Haitian immigrant Abner Louima in a Brooklyn precinct in 1997 and who has been behind bars in a federal prison for nearly 12 years without any chance of parole, is petitioning the Justice Department for a reduced sentence. He's currently sentenced to 30 years, but letters from family, friends, and a priest pleading for leniency have been sent with his petition. (In 2004, GQ tagged along with Volpe's father, a retired NYPD cop, during depressing visits with his son.)

One sympathetic friend tells the Post, ""Just[in] was a wonderful kid who used to feed the homeless on Thanksgiving. What happened that day was 30 seconds of something that was unspeakable, horrible. But isn't 12 years enough?" New York officials say the average incarceration of a violent offender in state prison is 7½ years, and murderers serve an average 24 years. But the judge in Volpe's case sentenced him under a federal guideline that allows harsher penalties for cops. The request is currently being considered, and you can bet this year's alleged NYPD sodomite is watching the outcome of this very closely.

But the judge in Volpe's case sentenced him under a federal guideline that allows harsher penalties for cops.

Makes sense. If you are a cop you are expected to know the law. You see victims of sexual assault all the time so you would know the consequences of your actions. And society has an interest in the police of all people not victimizing the public. So, all of that adds up to "rot in jail."

I would be very surprised if this pardon was granted.

WAHH WAHHH WAHHH i want my asshole cop son out of jail WAHH WAHH WAHH

They should give him a pardon only if he sits on a broom himself all the way down to bristles.

He has not yet served half his sentence and needs lots more jail time

It wasn't just 30 seconds. It was also almost two years of denying that he committed the act.

He is in fact not asking for a pardon, but for a commutation of his sentence.

A pardon would forgive the crime and in essence remove the conviction. This request, if granted, would not do that but would simply mean he'd be released.

The Post headline likely has that key word in quotes because they're making a pun, not trying to be accurate. Begs pardon, get it?

Bush only pardons Mexican drug traffickers. Sorry Joe.

Am I the only one who thinks this is poor timing? You know with that other sodomy case going on, I don't think too many people are thinking highly of sodomizing cops at the moment.

"...I don't think too many people are thinking highly of sodomizing cops at the moment."

Doesn't really matter what anyone is thinking, except for George W. Bush. And since Presidents historically move positively on more clemency requests during their lame duck periods than any other time, it's really do it now... or wait 4 or 8 years.

You do the crime you should be able to do the fine. If this case he should do the full 30 year sentence.

I don't know, maybe he should hang out another twelve years while we think about it.

For 2 years Justin Volpe lied about what he did. He dragged other cops down with him, let his lawyer suggest the victim was into gay S&M and poisoned community relations. The last one was the worst. You think the people in that area wanted to cooperate with the cops? If riots had taken place how many people could have been hurt or killed? But Justin Volpe knew all this and didn't care.
Screw him.

yea murder and torture are not alike. As read in a article te plunger handl didnt just enter a little, it was shoved through his intestines and through his bladder. Thats torture plus murder. Smug fucker shoulda got life. Let someone kill him or come out a old washed up67 yo who cant afford a cheap head.

"Just[in] was a wonderful kid who used to feed the homeless on Thanksgiving. What happened that day was 30 seconds of something that was unspeakable, horrible. But isn't 12 years enough?"

Since you asked, the answer is no, it's not enough.

What, is poor baby suffering in prison? THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT OF PRISON.

Part of this story is that Volpe's dad was
a cop here as well on the NYPD art crimes detail
Should have thought of his dad too!

He should stay in jail, don't forget not only
what he did to this man but
what the settlement cost
us poor taxpayers.

it is so rare that we see examples of justice and putting this guy away for a very, very long time is the least we can do to protect us from the likes of him - a monster who needs to be incarcerated and rehabilitated. he made a mistake that he must pay for. he went beyond abusing his power. considered?! what's to consider ? tell his family, friends, and the priest to write again in 18 yrs.

I wonder if he's been sodomized in prison. If he hasn't, then he doesn't know what he's talking about and should STFU.

B-b-but he volunteered on the most popular day to volunteer! Doesn't THAT mean something!?

Hey maybe we should "throw him a bone" after all this time.

Like give him that nice sweet young rookie who attacked the bicyclist as a new cellmate.
