Cop Who Bodyslammed Cyclist in Video Indicted

121508copshovebike.jpgNYPD officer Patrick Pogan, the cop from the infamous cyclist bodyslam video that was all the rage last July, has been indicted by a grand jury, CityRoom reports. Sources say that Pogan is being charged with felonies for filing a false police report after arresting Christopher Long, who was charged with attempted assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Pogan also accused Long of riding his bike straight into him, knocking them both down and causing a “laceration” on his arm, all of which contradict the incendiary video. (The charges against Long were dropped in September.) Pogan was stripped of his gun and badge in July after the video surfaced, and may also be charged with misdemeanor assault. His lawyer says, "My client denies any wrongdoing in this matter. I would have people withhold judgment until all the evidence comes out about the bicyclist’s actions prior to my client taking action."

First, everyone is entitled to a lawyer. Goring had a lawyer.

I'm glad he's indicted, but I'm sorry to see no disciplinary action was taken against his partner - who presumably backed up his partner's complaint.

Until the NYPD takes actaion against that kind of stuff, I'm not optimistic that things will much change.

#10, a lot of lawyers are blinded by greed.

"Pogan also accused Long of riding his bike straight into him"

You can see how Long does that as he veers to the side and the cop runs right into him.

Jail is a waste of money.

Sentence him to being a bike cop for the rest of his career.

Sometimes you almost (almost) feel sorry for lawyers. How can anyone hope to defend this douche?

Holy shit are the facts insinuating that cops are just as liable to abuse and commit crimes just as us regular folks are? My worldview is blown

    Eat it, pig!

  • "My client denies any wrongdoing in this matter.

And the video is a lie? Ok, then a journalist didn't throw his shoes at President Bush.

"I would have people withhold judgment until all the evidence comes out about the bicyclist’s actions prior to my client taking action."

    Oh yea?

It would be nice if cops withheld their goddamn trigger fingers before shooting/tasering people. Absolutely no need for all of it.

Looks like this pig won't be doing any of that for a while, at least.

    Let him burn.

Fantastic. It would set a horrible precedent if they didn't charge him.

  • woodendesigner

Sounds like the lawyer has not seen the video or is blind. I'm glad to hear that the grand jury is doing something right.
