Once a year a large troupe of handmade Saint Nicks flood the city with red, white and green. SantaCon is taking place right this second, after being kicked off at 10 a.m. at 33rd Street and 6th Avenue. Expect for these marathon Santas to pop up on the subway, in the bar and of course the city sidewalks. As the site notes: "They will shrivel at the end of a frantic 15 to 48 hour life cycle, gorging on booze, fornicating, and spreading an overwhelming stench of cheer." I'm very upset that I'm at work right now and not drinking from a flask behind an itchy nylon beard with 1,000 other red-suited alcoholics.
I just got back from South Street Seaport, where about 2,000 (I kid you not) Santas (and elves and some especially fetching reindeer) have taken over the place. Every restaurant, every bar (especially every bar) and spilled out onto the balconies and docks.
This must be huge, since I didn't see any of the Santas in your photos, but I did see Santa Chicken, Santa Kahn (Genghis, not Sadik), Santa Klan, Mr. Hankey (the Christmas poo)and a special appearance was made by a lovely red-headed elf who danced on the bicycle powered pole-dancing mobile.
Since I was on my bike, I left before sunset, but I bet the party's still going on.
Hooray for the anonymous 'middling loser white guys getting openly drunk' parade. I like how one in ten of the loser chicks pull the "sexy santa" stocking-and-boots look and the other gals skulk at them for ruining their chances of hooking up with a rent sponge.
santacon is really douchebags in santa outfits. Imagine all the worst fratboys combined with nerds you can imagine. That's santacon. I just passed some and they were cursing up a storm and saying they needed lube to masturbate with, if that's what passes for wholesome christmas entertainment these days.

and to your last point: I've paid cash or 30 day float on a platinum amex since 1998, thanks. and like everyone else these days, I get by on a lot less.
