McFadden's a Hotbed of Drunken FDNY Belligerence!

121008mcfadden.jpgAs if you needed any further reason to steer clear of McFadden's after last weekend's massive brawl, the Daily News recalls that this isn't the first time blood's been spilled at the Turtle Bay bar and restaurant. Back in 2004, one Todd Barnes took his date there for a drink and walked out with part of his ear missing, courtesy of one of New York's bravest.

Or so he contends—his assailant was never positively identified, but firefighter Sal Falesto, a brother of the bar's co-owner, was drinking at the bar with 20 or 30 off-duty firefighters. Barnes's lawyers obtained emails from a private investigator hired by McFadden's, revealing that earlier in the night a bouncer wanted to eject the firefighters for their unruly behavior, only to be rebuffed by Falesto's brother.

Later, Barnes and a firefighter bumped into each other, and in the ensuing brawl somebody tore off a chunk of his ear with a broken beer bottle. So yeah, maybe check out the Campbell Apartment next time you're around 42nd Street. On the other hand, Barnes did get nearly $1 million in the court settlement, so anyone got an FDNY T-shirt we can borrow?

    Drinking at McFadden's is a lot like eating at Olive Garden. Grave, grave sins.

  • Once again, a couple of bad drunks ruin it for EVERYBODY.

    i used to live right across the street from there and there would always be a crowd of people hanging around outside at 2am making a ruckus. i avoided that place like the plague. i also frequently saw these young yuppie looking kids without coats (in winter) walking from grand central to mcfaddens. I swear, you come to the city from the burbs and you want to hang at mcfaddens? you deserve to get beaten. sad thing is that there is a 24hr police booth on that block and they never ever ever ever ever do anything about the crowd or noise.

    Tyson'd by the FDNY.

  • I was at a bar last night wearing my Yankee hat and got my ass kicked by Jeter.

    the writers of "Rescue Me" don't have to work too hard to come up with new story lines, the stuff practically writes itself

    Sounds like a classy place.

    What group of youngish men (45 and under) isn't dangerous when they drnik too much. Frat boys, I bankers, cops, morticians, Jets fans, Red sox fans whatever.

    It isnt the FDNY it is the mob mentality made dumber with the fuel of booze. Nevermind that I can imagine a few bathroom brakes for what I call "#3". That covers anything other than pee and poo. So sex, coke etc.

    I had a friend staying at a hotel nearby and he wanted to grab something to eat while we had a drink last week. So I took him to McFadden's and the front of the bar was reserved for an FDNY party. I paused to think about it for about five seconds and told him "No good can come of this," and we left. No offense to the FDNY, but they're dangerous when drunk.

    @babyfishmouth: ha ha corrected, thanks

    I've never had a problem with McFadden's. I didn't even notice any FDNY looking personnel around when I'm there. Hell most of the crowd looks younger than 27 on most nights.

    A bear bottle sounds more frightening than a beer bottle.

    I used to go here back in the day when they had a special on Saturdays: 5 cents for all the draft beer you could drink from 8pm to 10pm. I think it was Meister Brau or something, because by 9:30, the place would reek of beer farts.
