The NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force is looking for suspects who attacked and beat two Ecuadorian brothers in Brooklyn, as one brother was declared brain dead. He remains in life support as relatives wait for his parents to arrive.
Jose Osvaldo Sucuzhanay, 31, and his brother Romel were drunk during the early hours of Saturday morning and were "staggering around... Kossuth Place and Bushwick Avenue." The NY Times writes, "They may have been a bit tipsy as they walked home in the dead of night, arm-in-arm, leaning close to each other, a common tableau of men in Latino cultures, but one easily misinterpreted by the biased mind."
The attackers, who got out of an SUV, used an aluminum bat and a broken bottle in their assault and allegedly yelled antigay epithets at them, like, "Check out those f----ts over there" (as well as "F--- you, Spanish people", and beat Sucuzhanay's skull in. The Daily News says Romel Sucuzhanay managed to escape, "His bloodied brother returned to the chaos, clutching his cell phone, telling the attackers that he had just phoned 911. The attack pack then sped off."
The incident is being investigated as a hate crime. Lawmakers were shocked, with City Council Speaker Christine Quinn saying, "This won’t be tolerated. We cannot and we will not let hate go unchecked in our city.” Jose Sucuzhanay had owned a real estate agency in Bushwick for ten years; one of his employees said, "He is a peaceful person. He wouldn't hurt a fly. We don't know why it happened." It's a hate crime only if white kids beat up, bad-mouth or even look askance at someone. Otherwise it's just "keeping it real" or acting according to having been preconditioned by years of oppression. Common robbery is a good excuse for certain displays of social pathology too.

Hmm? The victims were straight and Ecuadorean, so the attackers got both things wrong. Wonder why they hate Spanish homosexuals. A bad encounter in Barcelona's gay neighborhood, perhaps?
The difference (or irony?) is that in Patchouge,LI middle class white youths attacked a "Spanish/Mexican" ie: Ecuadorian because they're "taking" jobs they'll never ever do.
And in Bushwick, the (I'd say poor, but they got a friggin SUV, you aint poor)lower/lower middle class black youths (c'mon that's who it was) attacked a "Spanish/Faggot" ie: Ecuadorian because they're "taking" jobs/welfare/housing/other gay men(?) they'll never ever do/have.
How come young macho white males, and young macho black males have so much in common: Lack of intelligence, class, respect for themselves and others, a love of seriously terrible rap/metal/combo, being alive too long.

Why did they call the brothers "Spanish"? Yes, they speak the language but the victims were Ecuadorian. Spanish people are only people from Spain, which are technically white Europeans. It's like saying we're all English (minus of course those among us who really are from England). My heart goes out to the family. What's going on in NY?

I've always wished for the power to make people mentally go through the awful things they've done to other people. Over and over and over until their minds go.
They perceived them to be gay because they were walking arm in arm. Can you imagine two American men walking arm in arm? Not in this homophobe republic!! However, they weren't gay. They were just propping each other up and trying to stay warm. They were brothers and they were drunk.

It's really shocking to me that this could happen in NYC. I truly hope they catch the animals who did this. Now this poor family has to travel all the way from Ecuador to pull the plug. My condolences to them.
Anyone who has taken a psychology class knows that the only reason those assholes attacked someone they thought was gay is because those assholes are in conflict with their own sexuality. Or maybe they just want to go to jail to get free butt sex.
