- Maple Leafs 4, Islanders 2: Twice the Islanders fell behind and twice they rallied. But after the 2-2 tie, they gave up two more goals and fell to the Maple Leafs north of the border. Bill Guerin and Mike Sillinger scored the equalizers, but that wasn't enough.
The Islanders sit in last place in the Atlantic Division. They have lost five of six. Things don't look so good. The Devils have lost a Hall of Fame goalie and are making their move. The Islanders have had no such luck. They get Philadelphia on Tuesday as they continue a four-game road trip.

Like the Canadian Parliament, the Islanders are a mess!
Good thing they fired Ted Nolan...
"Good thing they fired Ted Nolan..."
I knew you were going to say that, but I doubt even he could help out this year's team. They need Bossy back.
Bossy, Billy Smith, Tonelli, Nystrom, Goring-they need them all!
You guys want Renney? You can have him. We hear he's great with developing "the kids".
#5, What are you complaining for? The Rangers are in first place!
Not complaining at all, really. Happy to be in first, considering how unconvincing the victories have been.
Just think the team needs somebody else to get them to the next level. Someone who knows Roszival needs to sit and Prucha needs to play.
I don't want Renney either...
There are very "fiery" coaches who can work that well with veterans and kids these days, other than Scotty Bowman. The Isles have had more than coaching problems since 1993, they've had GM problems. Milbury kept trading away the future. Gordon could be good in the long run, but they've got to figure what they want players work best, and find a way to attract them to LI (which is ALWAYS the toughest sell).
#9, the GM/coach problem is rampant throughout the league. My faves, the Blackhawks, haven't had a decent coach since the early 90's and their GM ain't so great either. Other problems include owners that would rather spend money on building a new arena to keep up with the Joneses, so to speak, instead of improving the team itself.
The Red Wings are the exception to this entire argument. They've had the same arena forever, because they pay $1 a year to use it, and they focus on developing new talent while also finding wily veterans who are hungry for the Stanley Cup.
Give the Blackhawks time. That is a massively talented couple of kids who could make them great. And hate to say it, but the old geezer dying was the best thing to happen to that franchise in a long, long time.
I agree. The Blackhawks have started turning things around. the Isles have had brief moments of success (the two years under Laviolette the made the playoffs, and the season they acquired Ryan Smyth at teh deadline), but couldn't do much with it. The Blackhawks seem destined for success quicker than the Isles.
PLus, as an Orig 6 team, they get recognized more, and players don't shun them b/c they play in teh suburbs.
