The Rich Are...Different

2008_12_mrsastor.jpgOver a year after Brooke Astor's death, journalist Meryl Gordon has published a book, Mrs. Astor Regrets, about the battle over the philanthropist's care and finances during her final years. The Post excerpted some juicy parts last month, but this Janet Maslin's review of the biography offered this interesting insight: "Many of those interviewed seem tone-deaf to their own gushing excesses and overwhelmed by displays of largess. About Ms. De la Renta’s literally gilded childhood: 'Dinner guests still recall the stacks of gold Krugerrands used as table décor and given away as party favors.'” And the saga surrounding Brooke Astor's legacy is far from over: Her son Anthony Marshall was indicted on criminal charges relating to how his mother's will was handled (believed to be forged to benefit him) last year.

The only way the rich are different in this aspect, is they will be better dressed in court. This complete low life Tony Marshall will now pay his lawyers with the money he stole from his 105 year old mother. What a POS!

They always think they're above the law and that their money can let them get away with anything. Unless the crime is that horrendous, they usually do.

This pictures show the problem with some of the fur hags. they have dogs and wear fur. don't they make the connection that animals are gassed, trapped and anally electrocuted for fur. Now that over 80% of the fur is from China, it can be cats and dogs tortured alive for fur coats. No blood for vanity.

Astor's son might even rival the shameless gold-digging of Anna Nicole Smith in her bogus estate claim to her husband Howard Marshall's estate. Only, Astor's son I'm sure was included in her will I guess he just didn't think he was getting a big enough piece....contrast to Anna Nicole who was entitled to 0% and fought to her death to try and get a piece of that fortune. But on the other hand Anna Nicole wasn't ever committing any real crimes, other than forum shopping, her actions may have been repugnant but Astor's son's underhandedness might actually result in criminal charges so I'm not sure which is worse. One thing is for sure, you're not a very upstanding citizen if you're in the same league as Anna Nicole.

....contrast to Anna Nicole who was entitled to 0%

Anna Nicole was entitled to something. Marshall chose her to be his wife, no matter what everyone else thought, and the inheritance becomes an automatic. Maybe he didn't get his money's worth but thats the way it works.

I disagree with the last commenter--Smith was not entitled to anything as soon as Marshall excluded her from his will. Being his wife does not entitle her to anything if his express wish was the opposite.
