NJ Teacher Arrested, Accused of Affair with Student

2008_12_njteacher.jpgIt's another teacher-student sex scandal: The Star-Ledger reports that an Old Bridge drama teacher was arrested due to an alleged "sexual relationship with a male student that started in February." Lisa Glide, 35, was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, which, if convicted, could mean up to 10 years in prison. Apparently prosecutors received information about a relationship and started to investigate last month; the student graduated this past summer at age 17. Students at Old Bridge High were surprised, telling WCBS 2, "I was shocked because I knew this teacher and she was great," and "She was nice, she was a really nice lady and she really loved what she did and she was really nice to all of us." Glide posted $100,000 last night; her lawyer said, "Like everybody, she is presumed innocent until proven guilty."

sexual assault?
seriously?
absolutely ridiculous.

Apologies for sounding like what I am (a middle-aged, middle-class married man,) but can someone explain to me why a 35-year old woman who looks THAT good is making time with a teenager? If she wanted something young and hard-bodied, aren't there plenty of 28-year olds out there?

because both parties are sick in the head,
for the student, both heads.

This should not be a crime.

Banging. Way to blow it, 17-year-old!

something tells me this one is unfair...

The usual "I'd hit that" comments should be coming in any time now.

The "sexual assault" charge means they believe the kid was at least partly influenced by her authority over him as a teacher. All her lawyer has to do is prove it was completely his decision. Shouldn't be all that hard since she's definitely much better looking than that Queens teacher a few weeks back. What male high school student hasn't had fantasies about attractive teachers?

I'd hit that like the fist of an angry god.

I graduated from that high school... this is definitely not the first instance of this happening, nor will it be the last.

No, what he thought and whether it was freely his decision isn't a factor under the law. Maybe it would convince a jury or judge to go easy on her, but under New Jersey law she can be charged with sexual assault because the "victim" is "at least 16 but less than 18 years old" and she "has supervisory or disciplinary power of any nature or in any capacity over the victim" (NJCC 2C:14-2).

Is that her high school senior photo or what?

Glide?

GLIDE?!??!

At least make us work for it.

@Kyle T--that's a photo from the Old Bridge yearbook (faculty section, I imagine).

This is getting to be a common event now. I'm not buying the isolated incident excuse anymore.

What the hell is wrong with these women? Haven't they got a shred of decency or judgement? This bimbo should working in a brothel, not a public school.

All my teachers were old and/or smelled like Ben Gay when I was in high school.

*sigh*

$100,000 bail seems ridiculously high.

It seems to be a trend in this country: female teachers having affairs with teenage boys.

I did enjoy the last name being "glide."

This is happening all over the country. Go to www.schoolteachernews.com and click on the Scandal page. They have documented over 435 of these types of incidents since just the beginning of 2008.

Heh... and do what triumph110 says and you'll also see that he posts that same comment on every newspaper article linked to on that (his, most likely) website.

"Like everybody, she is presumed innocent until proven guilty."

Guilty of what, again? A consensual relationship? Leave her alone, please.

They should charge and lock up the boy with "ruining a good thing" and then being done with it.

So I guess women get a mid-life crisis too. Who knew?

It happened in my high school, and yes, she was a Drama Teacher, and yes, she deluded herself into thinking she was in a committed relationship. So of course all of this is perfectly normal.

(and I'd hit it...but do sauce on the side)

The last few cases of this type of incident, the teachers were lookers. Maybe they felt they couldn't control their more contemporary boyfriends or maybe they were reliving their own High School years.

I got my pencil! Give me something to write on, man!

I don't feel tardy.
