1200 cars is for what, 4 hours? So 300 cars an hour or 50 cars a minute? No way. At most there's a couple dozen a minute exiting at GAP. But let's pretend it's 50 cars a minute. Are we really supposed to believe that all of the roads surrounding the park can't support another 50 cars a minute?

They may want to reconsider that line of argument. I would bet that if the park drives were opened up to park users (not just bikers, but runners, bladers, boarders, walkers, etc), their number would exceed 1,200 by several multiples. Parks are for people, not cars. Central Park too!

I just got back in from riding my mountain bike around the woodsy paths in Prospect Park, I didn't see any cars in the trees, but yeah, cars don't really belong in a park. Maybe use part of the street for a skatepark? In my wildest dreams!

This isn't just about the bikes. As a runner and walker and future dad I can say that the drivers are not respectful of anyone not in a car. It's a freaking park, not a thoroughfare, why do we need cars. On top of the reckless driving, the air quality is severely compromised with all of the exhuast fumes. Keep cars on the streets. I can't see it making that big of a difference. It's a shortcut, not an artery for cars.
