If you rode the V line on Sunday, you may have lucked out with a seat on one of the old 1930s-era subway cars deployed as part of the MTA's holiday train revival. But there's nostalgia rolling above ground too! Buses from the '60s and '70s are now operating during morning and evening rush hours on the M8, M14, M20, M23, M34, M42, M57 and M79 lines, and the Q32 in Queens, through January 2nd. A spokesman for New York City Transit tells the Post that while the older buses have less window space and weaker engines, they actually get better gas mileage than some modern buses: three miles per gallon of diesel, as opposed to two miles per gallon today. (Hybrids get about four miles per gallon.) Of course, the fare isn't vintage; a city bus cost 20 cents per ride until 1969, but these old timers have been retrofitted to take you $2 via MetroCard.

Cool!
Too bad I don't ride any of those lines.
I like these vintage trains and buses and all, but when I see all this stuff, I want some MTA person to be standing next to it and telling me IT IS COSTING THEM NOTHING EXTRA TO DO. If they are wasting even one cent on sentimental garbage, and then talking about eliminating subway lines out the other side of their mouth, then ... well then I hate them.
And I don't want a one-dollar fare at Christmastime either. That week or whatever when they do that, it just makes me think they are wasting money and need new leadership. Don't cut service and then give me a dollar off. It makes no sense.
bring back streetcars
buses are ghetto
Can we stab these bus drivers? Or maybe just beat them up like in the good old days.
This would only be good if they were actually adding capacity by running these buses in addition to regular service. That way you could at least justify the cost by having an increase in service.
#5 - Can we stab you?
#4, agreed! bring back streetcars, and not nostalgically
"#4, agreed! bring back streetcars, and not nostalgically"
how then? ironically?
Fuck the MTA and this nostalgic bullshit... Please make the current trains run on time for a change and stop wasting money on this crap. Again, fuck the MTA Fuck them
Bring back the electric trolleys but don't let MTA anywhere near them. Let all the shitty marketers, advertisers, and media outlets that act like NYC is their private preserve run them.
#7 Take your best if you think your man enough asshole.
