Long Island Pol Accused of Stealing from Dying Priest

120208jo.jpgStealing from a priest sounds pretty sleazy, but you know what sounds even slimier? Stealing from your priest cousin, who's given you power of attorney because he's dying of cancer and can't take care of himself. That's the allegation leveled at one John Orlando, who gets bonus scoundrel points for being a Long Island politician. Orlando, a village trustee in tony Bellport, was hit with a 74-count indictment yesterday that accused him of writing checks to himself and making unauthorized ATM withdrawals from the account belonging to his cousin, the late Rev. James D'Amato of Brooklyn. According to the Post, Orlando even bounced two $60,000 checks that were supposed to pay for D'Amato's nursing-home care. He pleaded not guilty in Brooklyn Supreme Court yesterday, but despite the fact that his cousin forgave him, he's being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Hello, Satan? Can you please prepare a room for John Orlando? Great, thanks.

Wow..looks like Long Island is way more sleazier than the city nowadays huh?

Wow, first Wal Mart and now this?

You stay classy, LI!

Sure looks like LI is catching up with NYC for despicable news stories. Let's not forget the bias attacks/murder, racist graffiti and the drunk driver who killed the two women in Astoria. Way to go LI!

#5:

As a LIer, I have to say we have enough drunk drivers taking people out already without counting fatalities from Queens to boot.

I think I speak for all Long Islanders when I say: thank God this didn't happen in Brookhaven.
