Sunny Start to Week

Is today's sun Mother Nature's way of making amends for yesterday's rain? We have no idea. We do know that the sun won't last all day. Clouds and a slight chance of showers will be rolling in on a stiff southwesterly breeze this afternoon and evening. Today's high will be a very pleasant 55 degrees.

A cold front following the clouds will bring clear skies and seasonable temperatures tomorrow and Wednesday. Expect highs in the mid to upper 40s each day. Rain is expected Wednesday night but it currently looks like it won't get here until well after the tree lighting festivities in Rockefeller Center.

The 2008 Atlantic hurricane season ended yesterday. There were 16 named storms and five major hurricanes, making it the fourth most active season since 1944. This past season was the first time six consecutive storms made landfall on the U.S. mainland. It was also the first time Cuba was hit by three major hurricanes and the first Atlantic season to have a major hurricane form in five consecutive months. Damage losses from this season are estimated at $54 billion, second only to 2005.
