Map of the Day: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Route

2008_11_parmap.jpg

Tomorrow is the 82nd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The parade begins at 9 a.m., up at West 77th Street and Central Park West and then makes it way down CPW to Broadway, continuing down Broadway until Herald Square. Macy's says the best place to view the parade is along CPW between 61st and 72nd Streets and simply says to arrive early for good viewing.

Besides balloons like SuperCute Hello Kitty and Kermit the Frog, there are many floats (Care Bears' Winter Wonderland, Meaning of Thanksgiving), marching bands and performers, like Idina Menzel, Miley Cyrus, Darius Rucker, Kristen Chenoweth, pianist Lang Lang, and the Muppets! More details here--and yes, Santa will be there.

If you're heading to the parade--or to tonight's balloon inflation-- you can share your pictures by emailing them to tips(at)gothamist(dot)com or tagging them "gothamist" on Flickr.

the macy's thanksgiving parade is a gyp! it's better to stay home and watch on HDTV. You will never see the cool shit that's on TV at the parade cause they don't do it til they get to herald square and guess what? all the seats at herald square are reserved for Macy's VIP. All you get to see is balloons and people waving because you woke up at 6 in the morning and lined up with bratty kids and pushy parents in frigid temperatures feeling like you want to pee but can't.
