SLA Chairman Says Paterson Aide Tried to Intimidate Him

112408cipriani.jpgThe head of the State Liquor Authority is telling the Post that an aide to Governor Paterson tried to intimidate him last summer into voting to renew liquor licenses for nine restaurants owned by the Ciprianis. You'll recall that the Cipriani empire—which includes the Rainbow Room—was jeopardized earlier this year when patriarch Arrigo Capriani and his son Giuseppe pleaded guilty to tax evasion. Felons are prohibited from holding liquor licenses in New York State, but the SLA voted 2-1 for renewal, with Chairman Daniel Boyle casting the lone dissent. Now he's come forward to say, "There's no question there was an attempt to intimidate me," made by Paterson's aide (and former state Senator) Carl Andrews, who allegedly told Boyle, "People here [in the Governor's office] are who you answer to."

"I don't say evasion, I say avoision."

Certain Liquor Authority chairmen need to shut up before it's 'closing time' in the Meadowlands.

SLA Chair Dan Boyle is a straight shooter and one of the most respected people in NYS govt. He was a former cop upstate who investigated crooked cops and cleaned up a corrupt SLA.

Now it looks like Patterson is bringing back corruption and cronyism.

Carl Andrews, as a Senator from Bklyn, also put pressure on the SLA to approve a liquor license for Lola's, a joint in SoHo that the CB and all the neighbors opposed.

It is partly owned by a black woman who cried the false cry of wolf regarding racism, and Andrews - a black man - stupidly fell for it, applied pressure to ALL the SLA Commissioners until he was told by Sen. Martin Connor to butt out of Connor's district.

Governor: Drop this scumbag before he taints you worse.

ProudNimby, is that you???
