Second Bankruptcy Will Do Steve & Barry's In

2008_11_sbarry.jpgSteve & Barry's, the cheap clothing retailer that offered inexpensive fashions from celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Amanda Bynes and Stephon Marbury, filed for bankruptcy for the second time in three months. Steve & Barry's, whose bankruptcy filing said it had no "prospects for continued financing of their business," will start liquidating and closing its 177 stores. Newsday reports that a group of employees who were laid off on Monday are suing because the company did not give them the required 60-day notice. Back in July, the Long Island-based company came under scrutiny during its financial troubles; it did receive a $163 million lifeline to restructure but the current economic situation was unforgiving.

Maybe we have to start realizing that the market is flooded with TOO MANY goods and services. Look at NYC, how many retail outlets and restaurants do we need? How much art, legal professionals, doctors and so on can the market absorb? There is TOO MUCH stuff to buy.

Can Barack bail out Steve & Barry's?

This bummed me out, I liked Steve & Barry's :-(

S&B has been selling off inventory. S&B clothes have been spotted in local discount stores. Girls, if you like S&B, try stores like Lot Less for S&B clothes at discounted prices.

can we sell SJB there to the highest (lowest) bidder?

so.... i guess fashion IS a luxury?
