In the weekly Democratic radio address (which is also videotaped for Youtube), President-elect Barack Obama outlined his economic stimulus plan. Noting the "crisis of historic proportions," Obama wants to create 2.5 million jobs in a two-year period to stimulate growth:
"It will be a two-year, nationwide effort to jumpstart job creation in America and lay the foundation for a strong and growing economy. We’ll put people back to work rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges, modernizing schools that are failing our children, and building wind farms and solar panels; fuel-efficient cars and the alternative energy technologies that can free us from our dependence on foreign oil and keep our economy competitive in the years ahead."He also said, "There are no quick or easy fixes to this crisis, which has been many years in the making, and it’s likely to get worse before it gets better. But January 20th is our chance to begin anew, with a new direction, new ideas, and new reforms that will create jobs and fuel long-term economic growth,” and mentioned the risks of "falling into a deflationary spiral that could increase our massive deficit."
The NY Times says the plan is "larger than any initiatives he proposed during the presidential campaign." Obama added he would seek input from Republicans as well as Democrats but emphasized that the country needs to move quickly, "If we don't act swiftly and boldly, most experts now believe that we could lose millions of jobs next year."

Just another month and half until Obama time!
I am glad I voted for him. Now the Congress has do their part. There is some daylight here.
At least he had the good sense to to suggest a five year plan. I'll give him that.
China got there ten days before us:

@ Mr Mel (and anyone else, I'm not singling you out):
Now it's time for US to do OUR part.
Volunteerism. Go to change.gov, and you'll see voluteerism is a big part of Obama's plan for change in America.
Energy savings -- wear a sweater and put your heat down a bit, less car driving, less throwing away of perfectly good stuff. Give business to repair places. We're at war and we're in a recession. It's time to buckle down, if only for our morale and to generate a sense of solidarity.
A sense of solidarity, and good morale are nothing to sneeze at these days!
Wait, the Executive Branch is supposed to create jobs?
Soon enough, we'll all be working for the gov't. Yay, New Deal 2.0!
@ cucarachita:
Volunteerism?
In this economy?
Right.
Not paying people to do work is going to fix everything.
If you think that will work, I have a bridge to sell you.
Why do we have to wait until January 20 to start digging ourselves out of this hole?
Put this guy in charge right now, dammit!
Volunteerism. Go to change.gov, and you'll see voluteerism is a big part of Obama's plan for change in America.
Volunteerism is great, but so many of us can barely afford our rent. I say, bring back the WPA.
Good god, get a clue. The New Deal didn't work. It doubled the size of government, sure, but what really brought things back was:
1. Selling weapons to both sides in WW2
2. Being the only country with industrial capacity to rebuild Europe and Asia.
So, in other words, we were in the right place at the right time.
What do we produce now ? (Hint: the answer is debt).
Also, something awesome to consider. FDR was able to grow the government because they didn't have: FDIC, FHA, GRE's, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, etc.
We have so much unfunded liability, eventually the taps will run dry on the free money machine.
Weimar here we come!
I sure hope his plan works but I am skeptical considering that this financial crises was caused by the democratic congress lead by Nancy Pelosi, and the Democratic Senate lead by Harry Reid, with the main culprits being Chris Dodd, Barack Obama, Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer. Now all you Barack Obama supporters should check wilkopedia to find out who these people are.
"this financial crises was caused by the democratic congress lead by Nancy Pelosi, and the Democratic Senate lead by Harry Reid"?
(sigh)
O c'mon! Do you honestly believe that this only happened Since January of 2007? That's when the Democratic party came took over after the November 2006 election...
O Please, get a clue and stop listening to Bill O'Rielly. Let me guess: All of GW's Crap was do to Bill Clinton, Right??
Sure it was...
#10,
I'm guessing my sarcasm didn't show.
Let's impeach Bush just because he's an ugly idiot and get that Obama in there.
President Bush, with his Harvard MBA, hasn't got a clue to what has happened. His leadership skills are abominable and his Vice President could care less about what happens to this country or the working people in it.
new new deal plz
I'm always amused that Bush has a Harvard MBA. I guess accounting wasn't a part of their program....
