Pencil This In

l_975d4f87820afb11491a7ef086209c12.jpgMUSIC: The one-and-only Amanda Palmer (pictured) is playing Webster Hall tonight, sans her fellow Dresden Doll. If you haven't seen her beautifully assault a piano on stage, you are missing out. Give a listen here, and check out our interview from earlier this year. Get there by 8:30 to catch her set!

Friday // 6 p.m. // Webster Hall [125 E 11th St] // $25

EVENT: The annual Canstruction is taking place again, and FreeNYC has the details, saying "every year, architects, engineers and students throughout North America design and build amazing sculptures out of cans of food. In the end, all of the food (and additional can donations) are sent to City Harvest and distributed to those in need. This year, Canstruction NYC is bigger than ever and finds itself at a new home in the World Financial Center. Continues through December 8th."

Friday // 6 to 9 p.m. // World Financial Center [220 Vesey St] // Free

PARTY: n+1 is celebrating the release party of their latest issue, no. 7, tonight. A literary journal party? It's nothing to scoff at, so get a nap in before heading to the Lyceum (and perhaps peruse their website for talking points). Bonus?: Nick Sylvester is deejaying, and the drinks are "dirt-cheap."

Friday // 9:30 p.m. // The Brooklyn Lyceum [227 Fourth Ave, Brooklyn] // $10

KITTENS & CATS!: NYC Pet Supplies and the Empty Cages Collective are teaming up tomorrow for an adoption day! They say: "All of our kittens have been rescued from our Trap-Neuter-Return efforts in New York City, or brought to us to bottle-raise and socialize by other rescuers and the public. Kittens are adorable and a delight to have around of course, but the more important concern is taking care of the mothers left behind. These poor moms have often had their babies taken away, may even be pregnant again, and now are going to go through the devastating cycle all over again. Yes, get the little ones to safety, but don't forget the moms!" More details here.

Saturday // 1 to 6 p.m. // NYC Pet Supplies [241 Bedford Ave, Williamsburg]

FOOD: If, say, you've been enlisted to carve your first turkey at your girlfriend's house this Thanksgiving, and you're completely stressing out about it, here's your chance to get some practice in before your big debut. (And get your drink on at the same time.) New York Wine Co. is hosting a two hour lesson on the art of turkey carving, where they'll walk you through all the basics while pouring some of their best fall wines. – John Del Signore

Saturday // 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. // NY Wine Co. [21 Warren Street] // $45

DANCE/THEATER: Based on the 1503 triptych by Hieronymous Bosch, Martha Clarke’s Garden of Earthly Delights is an hour-long theatrical dance divided into three sections, echoing the three panels in the painting. Lisa Ferber writes, "While this piece debuted in 1984, I can't help but feel there's a strong '70s element in it. Maybe it's the hippieish folks in body stockings tossing their long hair, or the free spirit orgiastic nature, or the guy running around with branches on his head. Either way, there is a freedom and fun to this show." And Charles Isherwood at the Times calls it "seriously spine chilling. Ms. Clarke and her performers create a convincingly fiery vision of hell, and suddenly it’s right in your lap." – John Del Signore

Sunday // 3 p.m. & 7 p.m. // Minetta Lane Theatre [18 Minetta Lane] // Tickets

FOOD: There's a Fondue Takedown going on at Union Pool this Sunday. Which sounds equally appetizing and disgusting. Here's the deal, cheesemongers: "The most important cheese fondue contest in New York. The fondue takedown is a no-holds barred fondue competition. Any type of fondue, as long as it's cheese. Free to enter your fondue. $100 people's choice award."

Sunday // 5 p.m. // Union Pool [484 Union Ave, Williamsburg] // $10 to eat/judge

Pencil these in: better eyebrows.

"beautifully assault a piano on stage" - best thing you've written, Jen.
