My favorite Thanksgiving recipe isn't a food but a drink: Festive Cranberry Martinis

Surely that's what the pilgrims had in mind...

AnnaZed, toast a whole nutmeg seed in a pan. It might roll around awkwardly a bit-- like a wooden marble-- but the toasting part is just meant to heat the nutmeg up a bit, in order to release the oils inside where the flavor is. You can also sort of gently toast a smaller amount of grated nutmeg in the bottom of a warm pan, say 1/3 teaspoon's worth.

Any idea how to toast nutmeg? I am sort of assuming grate it and toast it in a pan, but maybe not.
