The South Street Seaport redevelopment plan proposed by General Growth Properties and SHoP Architects has been panned by the community since day one, though favored by the Bloomberg administration. Curbed reports the Landmarks Preservation Commission "slapped the proposal around like an abusive drunk stepfather. The massing, scale and height of the new buildings (especially that 42-story condo/hotel on the waterfront) were deemed inappropriate for the Seaport Historic District, and the LPC was also against moving the century-old Tin Building to the end of Pier 17." There was no vote, so the application is still considered active, and the GGP declared they were "undeterred," and "remain committed to our plan to revitalize the seaport district, add necessary amenities and open space, and respect the unique historical character of this cherished neighborhood."

Keep the big red "X" for all the other big ticket projects in the pipeline.
even with the fish market gone, it's still ghetto.
let it go developers, it's not working.
I don't mind developers working on in areas that need it, but please don't let them build anything as tacky as the proposal for the Seaport. Its terrible.
Thank God!
Maybe they could try building more affordable housing for those of us living here that keep the city thriving & running so the annoying tourists can continue to come!
Whew!
Leave the K'nex building to the kiddies yo.
I guess I'm part of the small minority that doesn't mind Pier 17 the way it is right now. I'd rather have it in its "ghetto" and gritty state than some second-rate version of the Disneyfied Times Square.
Throw a rave. Hand out pills and it'll earn.
Trust me on this.
General Growth Properties is a cunt hair away from bankruptcy and still they fight to defend this speculative, unfinanceable piece of shit? Do they pay these guys upfront so they just run and run long after the developer's bones have bleached white?
